Description
Hakuro, also known as Hakurou, is a prominent character in the ogre and kijin races who serves as a high-ranking executive and the chief military instructor for the Jura Tempest Federation. Originally an elderly ogre with silver hair, ivory horns, and traditional robes, his life took a dramatic turn after his village was destroyed by the Orc Lord. Despite the typical ogre lifespan being only around one hundred years, Hakuro had already lived for over three hundred years by the time he met Rimuru Tempest, a remarkable feat that was later extended further when Rimuru named him, causing him to evolve into a kijin. This evolution not only granted him a significantly longer life but also restored his physical body to a more youthful, middle-aged prime, giving him sharper features, a silver goatee, and more refined attire.

In terms of personality, Hakuro is known for his calm, analytical, and wise demeanor, which has earned him the respect of his allies as a Sword Savant. He is polite and kind in daily interactions but becomes cold and harsh when engaged in combat or training. One of his most notable quirks is his intense sensitivity to being called old man, as he often responds to such remarks with threats of increased training or other forms of retribution. His motivations are deeply rooted in his loyalty to Rimuru, whom he initially antagonized due to a misunderstanding but later swore allegiance to after the confusion was cleared up. He is driven by a desire to strengthen the nation of Tempest, believing that monsters often rely too heavily on their innate skills and should instead master combat arts.

Hakuro plays a crucial role in the story as the primary mentor for many key figures in Tempest, including Rimuru himself, whom he instructs in swordsmanship to reduce the slime s dependency on raw power. He also trains other warriors such as the goblin Gobta, maintaining a strict and often exasperated regimen to drill the fundamentals of combat into his students. His background is rich with history, as he is the grandson of master swordsman Byakuya Araki and served as the martial instructor for his tribe s royal guard. Centuries before the main events of the story, he trained Gazel Dwargo, who later became the king of the Armed Nation of Dwargon. This past connection makes him a respected figure with deep ties to the world s political landscape.

Key relationships define much of his journey. His bond with Rimuru Tempest is central, as he serves as a loyal subordinate, a trusted advisor, and a grateful recipient of a new lease on life. A major development in Hakuro s life is the discovery that he has a love child named Momiji, the heir to the Tengu leadership, who was born from a past affair with the Tengu leader Kaede. Upon meeting her for the first time, his demeanor shifts noticeably, becoming openly doting, overprotective, and eager to embrace his role as a father. He actively encourages Momiji s relationship with Benimaru and has been known to express irritation at any hesitation regarding their potential marriage.

Throughout the series, Hakuro undergoes significant development, transitioning from a secluded and grieving survivor of a destroyed village to an integral leader and father figure within the bustling nation of Tempest. He participates in major strategic events, such as helping to counter the invasion from Falmuth and contributing his wisdom to the nation s defense. In combat, his abilities are legendary. He possesses a suite of powerful skills that make him one of the strongest fighters in the federation. These include Martial Master, Thought Acceleration, Ultra Acceleration or Mind Accelerate, Heaven Gaze for sensing magic, Steel Strength for physical enhancement, and a supreme technique known as Yaezakura Hakkasen, which unleashes a devastating series of flowing slashes. He is also capable of using Battlewill to enhance his body, Multilayer Barrier for defense, and Spiritual Combat to harm spiritual lifeforms. His skill is such that even as an ogre he was a legendary swordmaster, and his evolution has only amplified his power, solidifying his status as the Sword Saint of Tempest.
