Description
Katsuki Bakugo is a central figure in the final season of My Hero Academia, a character whose journey from an arrogant prodigy to a selfless hero reaches its culmination. Born with a powerful Quirk and immense natural talent, Bakugo grew up with an unshakable belief in his own superiority, a trait that manifested as a cruel and aggressive attitude, particularly toward his childhood friend Izuku Midoriya, whom he dubbed Deku out of scorn. However, the final season showcases the ultimate results of his long and difficult path toward genuine heroism.
In the final season, Bakugo’s role in the story is definitive and pivotal. After suffering a near-fatal injury in a previous battle against the arch-villain Tomura Shigaraki, which stopped his heart, Bakugo is revived through the sacrifice of the pro hero Edgeshot. This revival occurs just in time for him to become a key player in the final war against the demon lord, All For One. His primary motivation is no longer simply to be the number one hero for the sake of glory, but to atone for a past mistake he has long held himself responsible for: his kidnapping by the League of Villains, which he believed led to All Might’s forced retirement and loss of power. This guilt fuels his determination to save All Might from being killed by All For One, a goal that represents his redemption and his acceptance of what it truly means to be a hero.
Bakugo’s personality throughout the final season retains its characteristic explosive and brash exterior—he is defiant, proud, and confrontational. Yet, these traits are now channeled into protecting others and fighting for a cause greater than himself, a stark contrast to his earlier self-centeredness. This development is profoundly reflected in his key relationships. His rivalry with Izuku Midoriya transforms into one of mutual respect and trust. They fight as true partners, with Midoriya using his Quirk, Gearshift, to launch Bakugo at incredible speeds to save All Might, demonstrating a seamless coordination born from their complex history. Furthermore, his relationship with his idol, All Might, reaches a powerful climax when the retired hero, seeing Bakugo’s unwavering spirit, passes on the last remnant of his battle armor to him. This symbolic gesture signifies All Might’s trust and the formal transfer of his heroic legacy to Bakugo, bringing an honest and innocent smile to the young hero’s face.
The final season also represents the peak of Bakugo’s emotional and psychological development. His entire arc builds toward the moment where he confronts All For One. In this battle, Bakugo evolves from a bully seeking victory for personal validation into a protector who embodies self-sacrifice. The villain All For One, underestimating him, is shocked by his relentless assault and begins confusing Bakugo with Kudo, the second user of One For All, highlighting the thematic parallels between the two fighters. In a triumphant moment, Bakugo lands the decisive blow on All For One, using his full power to overwhelm the villain, whose own body begins to rewind out of existence. This victory is not just a physical one, but a deeply personal achievement, as his voice actor noted that this was Bakugo’s first true, undisputed win against a major villain, a moment where he finally lives up to his self-proclaimed title as a hero who always wins. Following this, he formally adopts his hero name, Dynamight, solidifying his new identity as a hero who fights for others.
Bakugo’s notable abilities in the final season are pushed to their absolute limit. His Quirk, Explosion, allows him to secrete nitroglycerin-like sweat from his palms and ignite it to create powerful blasts. This ability grants him immense offensive power and propels him through the air with incredible speed and maneuverability, enabling him to fight effectively on the ground and in the sky. In the final season, his power undergoes a form of awakening or evolution, allowing him to generate explosions at a previously unseen rate and intensity, enough to match and overwhelm All For One. This is complemented by his high intelligence and tactical mind; he is not a mindless berserker but a strategic fighter who analyzes his opponents and the battlefield, creating specialized techniques like Armor-Piercing Shot and Stun Grenade to maximize his Quirk’s effectiveness. His willpower and pain tolerance are equally formidable, as he continues to fight even while suffering from the grievous wounds that Edgeshot is holding together, proving that his spirit is just as explosive as his Quirk.
