Description
Kyoko Inaba is a main character from Domori Elementary School's class 5-3. She is easily recognized by her bright orange hair, which she typically wears in twin-tails secured with red hairbands, and her sharp blue eyes. Physically, she stands 146 centimeters tall and is noted for being athletic and strong, though she is self-conscious about her flat chest, a trait that is often a point of teasing from her friend Miki Hosokawa.

Kyoko's personality is a blend of fiery temper and deep-seated caring. She is strong-willed and does not hesitate to use force or express her anger, often driving her teacher and friends a little crazy with her violent reactions, which usually stem from a sense of justice or embarrassment. However, underneath this tough exterior, she is one of the most caring and responsible students in her class, constantly looking after the welfare of her teacher and classmates and showing a strong emotional attachment to them. She aims to follow rules but is not rigid, sometimes choosing to act outside of them if she believes it is the right thing to do. While she is kind-hearted, her impulsiveness and one-track mind can lead her to misjudge situations or impose what she thinks is best on others, causing unintended trouble.

Her background is deeply tied to her teacher, Meisuke Nueno, also known as Nube. As a young girl, she was possessed by a fox or inari spirit, and Nube, then a college student, was the one who saved her. This childhood rescue created a profound sense of trust and loyalty that defines her role in the story. She is often at the center of the supernatural incidents the class encounters, partly because of her strong spiritual sensitivity. She possesses a powerful guardian spirit, a fierce samurai warrior from the Warring States period, which is said to influence her rowdy temperament.

Kyoko's key relationships drive much of her character development. Her bond with Nube is foundational; she trusts him implicitly and looks up to him as a role model, which later inspires her own career path. With her classmate Hiroshi Tateno, she begins with a competitive rivalry, finding him annoying, but over time she develops genuine romantic feelings for him, and they eventually become an official couple. She also has a love-hate rivalry with her best friend, Miki Hosokawa, which often manifests in playful clashes over physical appearances, such as chest size and hairstyles.

Throughout the series, Kyoko shows notable growth. While her impulsive nature remains, her violent temper softens over time. Initially dreaming of becoming a cabin attendant and pursuing language studies, she ultimately decides to become a teacher herself, inspired by Nube's sincere dedication to his students. In the sequel Jigoku Sensei Nube NEO, she returns to Domori Elementary School as a teacher, working alongside Nube and continuing to face supernatural challenges. Her journey concludes with her resigning from teaching to move to Italy and marry Hiroshi.

In terms of abilities, Kyoko possesses surprising physical strength and endurance, being able to perform one hundred push-ups with ease and run very fast. She excels in science and is adept with computers, but she is notoriously clumsy with her hands, making her terrible at crafts and cooking. Her athleticism has a notable exception: she is the only student in her class who cannot swim. Her most distinctive trait is her high spiritual sensitivity, which frequently makes her a target for ghosts and spirits but also grants her the protection of her samurai guardian spirit. On one occasion, this guardian spirit was replaced by a vengeful spirit called Senki-hime, which dramatically altered her personality and put her life at risk.
