Description
Leonhart Saijō, commonly called Leo, attends First High School as a second-year Course 2 student. His Germanic features include auburn or dark brown hair, green eyes, and an athletic 180 cm frame that gains muscle during high school. With a half-Japanese father and quarter-Japanese mother, he embodies mixed heritage. His grandfather, Georg Ostburg, belonged to Germany’s First Type-Burg Folge (Fortress Series), genetically modified magicians with enhanced physical abilities. As the third generation inheriting these traits without the first generation’s mental deterioration, Leo is a valuable genetic specimen. The Saijō family historically managed yakuza operations in Sōka, Saitama Prefecture, but renounced them as a condition for Georg’s marriage. They now operate private welfare-rehab facilities, vigilante groups, and rental-work placement businesses. Raised mainly by his grandfather, Leo learned to manage psychological risks from his genetic legacy, including emulating Georg’s longevity through impulses like nighttime roaming.

Leo displays an easy-going, bright, and frank personality, frequently sparking heated arguments with Chiba Erika. Courageous and hot-blooded, he readily helps others but can be oblivious in some situations. Fear of his lineage’s insanity and early death profoundly influences his behavior. He treasures his grandfather’s old-generation gauntlet CAD, using it exclusively before modern upgrades. Though academically underestimated, he shows unexpected insight.

His magic specializes in Data Fortification (Fortifying Magic), a Convergence Magic branch that stabilizes molecular coordinates in a defined area to harden objects or clothing into armor. Techniques include Panzer, fixing an object’s coordinates against breakage; Halt, anchoring objects to prevent movement; Schild, applying Panzer-like effects to his CAD for an enhanced shield; Streitkolben, converging psions into a body part for reinforced strikes; and Siegfried, his trump card that hardens his body to nullify external forces, risking clothing damage and causing intense hunger from energy drain. He also utilizes Badariforging, a rare medical Fortifying Magic application developed by Tatsuya Shiba, which Leo taught to junior club members, and Usuba Kagerō, a technique merging the Chiba family’s secret sword with Fortifying Magic for an ultra-sharp blade, later restricted from combat by legal limits. Leo first used his grandfather’s voice-recognition gauntlet CAD, then adopted Tatsuya’s prototype "Mini-Communicator" weaponized integrated CAD during the Nine Schools Competition, before switching to white knuckle-duster CADs from Rosen Magicraft for improved hand-to-hand combat.

His narrative starts in Spring 2095 when he befriends Tatsuya Shiba on enrollment day. Joining the Mountaineering Club, he later trains junior students. At the 2095 Nine Schools Competition, he assists in kitchen duties and tests Tatsuya’s Mini-Communicator, leading to his recruitment as a Monolith Code defender. In January 2096, he combats paranormal parasites ("Vampires"), demonstrating enhanced endurance. After graduating by 2099, he studies disaster response at Katsuwa Rescue University. That same year, with Erika, he trains Tookami Marika and peers at a Martial Magic Arts Club summer camp, teaching Badariforging. His combat evolution spans school competitions to paramilitary engagements, reflecting his growth from student to rescue specialist.

Name trivia: His surname "Saijō" (西城) means "west castle." "Leonhart" originates from Old Germanic elements for "lion" (Leo) and "hardy/strong" (hard), aligning with his physical prowess.
