Mick Lauer
Description
Mick Lauer is an American voice actor known for his work in anime dubbing, primarily out of Los Angeles. He was born on December 10, 1980, in Woodinville, Washington. His early life was shaped by significant time abroad, as he moved to Taiwan at the age of nine and spent several years living in various Asian countries before eventually returning to his hometown in the United States. This bicultural upbringing, being of mixed Taiwanese and Caucasian heritage, contributed to his fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
Lauer pursued a formal education in performance, graduating from the New York University Tisch School of the Arts. His training included three years of conservatory work with the Atlantic Theater Company, a year at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, and a final year focusing on film and television performance at StoneStreet Studio. He also trained in voice acting under Jay Snyder at Edge Studio in New York City.
Prior to his professional voice acting career, Lauer built a significant online presence as an animator and internet personality under the name RicePirate on platforms like Newgrounds and YouTube. He was known for creating parody animations and was a member of the SleepyCabin podcast and studio collective. This background in animation and online content creation informed his later work in voice performance.
Lauer's voice acting career features a wide range of roles in English dubs of anime series. He is affiliated with major dubbing studios such as Bang Zoom! Entertainment and Studiopolis. His filmography includes a diverse array of characters, from stoic and powerful figures to more comedic or villainous roles. Some of his notable credits include Leone Abbacchio in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Tenjirō Kirinji in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Makoto Shishio in the Rurouni Kenshin remake, and Shuro in Delicious in Dungeon. He also voices characters in long-running franchises such as Kingdom, where he plays Lord Changping, and The Prince of Tennis II, as Gin Ishida.
Lauer's work encompasses a broad spectrum of anime genres. He has taken on roles in fantasy series like The Misfit of Demon King Academy as Gusta and In the Land of Leadale as Elineh, as well as in science fiction titles like Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE as Captain Zeon and The Irregular at Magic High School as Leonhard Saijo. He also portrayed The Assassin in The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat, Euripedes Ritzland in Love of Kill, and Jisai Kanemaki in Orient. His role as Hon Akraptor in the Tower of God: Workshop Battle arc further demonstrates his presence in popular modern anime adaptations.
