Description
Beelzebub is the protagonist of Sand Land and serves as the prince of demons, a position he holds as the son of the Demon King Lucifer. Despite his royal lineage and an age of over 2500 years, he possesses the appearance and energetic demeanor of a young, impish boy.

His personality is built on a fascinating contradiction. Beelzebub proudly declares himself an evil demon and enjoys boasting about his supposed wickedness. However, his definition of being bad is charmingly childish, encompassing minor infractions like not brushing his teeth before bed, not washing his hands, or returning a borrowed video game late. This bravado masks a fundamentally kind and noble nature. Although he can be cocky, arrogant, and impatient, he possesses a pure heart and a strong moral compass, always striving to do what is right. He is deeply curious about humans, even if he is reluctant to admit it, and finds them genuinely interesting. His heroic tendencies are a source of embarrassment for him, as he prefers to maintain his image as a fiend.

Beelzebub's primary motivation is the desperate water shortage affecting both demons and humans in the barren desert world he inhabits. Initially living in relative harmony by stealing only the water his fellow demons need, he agrees to join the human Sheriff Rao on a perilous journey to find the Legendary Spring, a fabled source of water. He seeks permission from his father for this adventure, whom he deeply respects and fears. As the story progresses, his role expands from a mischievous guide to a crucial fighter against the corrupt human king and other powerful threats, including the Insect Men and the angel Muniel.

Throughout his journey, Beelzebub forms several key relationships. His partnership with Sheriff Rao, who nicknames him Belz, is central to the story. He also travels with an elderly demon named Thief, who acts as a knowledgeable and skilled companion. A significant revelation ties him to the angel Ann, whom he discovers is his niece, as her mother Lilith was his sister. Over the course of the narrative, Beelzebub develops from a boastful prince playing pranks into a genuine hero who accepts his responsibilities, confronts powerful enemies, and fights to liberate the oppressed, all while still grumbling about his good deeds.

As a demon prince, Beelzebub possesses a formidable array of superhuman abilities. He is a lightning bruiser, combining incredible strength to hurl boulders with immense speed that can keep pace with fast-moving vehicles. His durability is such that bullets and conventional attacks barely faze him. He can use telepathy to communicate with his allies mentally and possesses enhanced senses that surpass radar. In battle, he can perform special moves like a rapid Rush attack and unleash a blast of energy called Dark Release. His most notable technique is Metalize, which allows him to harden his skin to a metallic state, drastically increasing his defense. On nights with a full moon, he can absorb the Power of Darkness, which heals his injuries and triggers a powerful super mode that greatly enhances all of his abilities.
