Description
Bojack is the primary antagonist of the 1993 animated film Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound. He is the leader of a group known as the Galaxy Soldiers, a crew of alien pirates who operate under his command. His name is derived from the Japanese word bōjakubujin, which means arrogance or audacity, a trait that strongly defines his character. In terms of appearance, Bojack has a muscular build and a design that evokes the image of a pirate, complete with teal-colored skin, long orange hair, and a prominent scar running across his face. He also possesses a maximum-power transformation that increases his muscle mass dramatically, turns his skin chartreuse, and changes his hair to red.

Regarding his background, Bojack is a ruthless and powerful space pirate who terrorized the universe, committing acts of genocide across the four galaxies. His reign of terror was eventually stopped by the four Kais, who managed to imprison him inside a star, where he remained sealed for a very long time. His imprisonment only came to an end due to the events of the Cell Games on Earth. When the self-destruction of the villain Cell killed King Kai and destroyed his small planet, the seal that held Bojack was shattered, allowing him and his crew to finally escape. Bojack tracked the immense energy from the Cell Games to Earth, arriving on the planet with the goal of conquering it.

Bojack’s personality is defined by a potent combination of cruelty, arrogance, and bloodlust. He is a sadistic figure who expresses genuine pleasure in dominating and destroying his opponents, even remarking on how long it has been since he has been able to kill. His arrogance is so profound that he firmly believes in his own invincibility, a conviction that ultimately leads to his downfall. He is also incredibly treacherous, showing no genuine loyalty to his own subordinates. This is most clearly demonstrated when he callously uses one of his followers, Zangya, as a human shield, blasting through her in a desperate attempt to land a surprise attack on his enemy, Gohan. This act shows that he values his own survival and victory above all else, even the lives of his own crew.

In the story, Bojack serves as the main threat following the Cell Games. Upon arriving on Earth, he secretly takes control of a martial arts tournament being hosted by a wealthy family, using it as a means to draw out and eliminate any warrior capable of opposing him. He initially sends his minions to fight while he observes from a ruined city. Bojack only enters the fray personally after his subordinate Kogu is killed by Future Trunks. Once engaged, he demonstrates his immense power by quickly defeating some of the strongest fighters on Earth, including Future Trunks, Piccolo, and the newly arrived Vegeta, forcing him to transform into his full-power state. His role is to push the young hero Gohan to his absolute limit. After Gohan is beaten down and nearly crushed to death in a bear hug, a brief intervention from his deceased father, Goku, inspires the boy to transform into a Super Saiyan 2, the form in which he finally overpowers and destroys Bojack.

Regarding his key relationships, Bojack primarily interacts with his own Galaxy Soldiers, including Bido, Bujin, Kogu, and Zangya. He treats them as disposable tools to be used for his own benefit, as his murder of Zangya illustrates. He holds no respect for his enemies and views Earth's defenders as obstacles to be eliminated. His most significant relationship in the film is with Gohan, whom he initially tortures for his own amusement but who ultimately becomes his destroyer. There is little character development for Bojack within the film, as he remains a static, purely antagonistic force driven by his desire for conquest and destruction. However, in later spin-off media like video games, he is portrayed as harboring an intense and long-lasting grudge against both Goku and Gohan for his defeat.

Bojack possesses a wide array of notable abilities. He is an expert in Ki manipulation, able to fly and project powerful energy blasts. One of his signature techniques is the Grand Smasher, a large, destructive green energy sphere fired from one hand. He can also generate a potent defensive technique called the Psycho Barrier, an energy shield that can protect him from attacks, as shown when he effortlessly blocked a barrage of blasts from Future Trunks. In his transformed state, he becomes much more powerful, physically overwhelming Super Saiyans. His ultimate attack is the Galactic Buster, a massive, two-handed energy wave that he uses in a final, desperate attempt to destroy Gohan.
