Description
Lightning, a French Bulldog first encountered as a stray in the alley behind Dan Kouzo's home, evolved into the unofficial mascot and vigilant lookout for the Awesome Brawlers. His white fur features distinctive brown patches across his ears, head, and body, including a heart-shaped mark on his side. He wears a collar fitted with miniature spheres for transporting and deploying Bakugan. Typically cheerful and sleepy, Lightning balances his demeanor with fierce loyalty and protective instincts. His heightened animal intuition detects environmental shifts and threats invisible to humans, forging a unique bond with Bakugan that yields strategic advantages. While he communicates primarily through barks decipherable only by Bakugan partners, he temporarily gained human-understandable speech during the critical battle in "Lightning Unleashed."
His role intensified after bonding with Darkus Bakugan at Pinpoint Park’s second Great Collision. Howlkor, a Cerberus-like guardian Bakugan, became his primary partner throughout much of the series. Though their partnership initially clashed, Howlkor deeply valued Lightning’s instincts. Howlkor evolved into Hyper Howlkor (gaining an extra head and 800 Bs power) during a pivotal fight against Strata the Hunter, later adopting elemental forms like Strength Mode and Speed Mode (each 700 Bs) in *Evolutions*. Lightning later partnered with Artulean—discovered in a goo sphere during "Dog Daze," sparking friction with Howlkor—and Tretorous in *Armored Alliance*. In *Geogan Rising*, Ferascal replaced Howlkor as his main guardian Bakugan. He also briefly allied with Phaedrus.
In battles, Lightning directs Bakugan through vocal commands and tactical BakuCore deployment. Key victories include defeating Strata the Hunter’s Krakelios and Skorporos using Hyper Howlkor’s "Prism Thunder," rescuing the brainwashed Bakugan Bear by destroying its control device, and contributing to team wins against antagonists like The Exit Team and Col. Tripp. Losses occurred against foes such as Magnus Black and AAAnimus forces. His instincts consistently aided the team, such as sensing AAAnimus’s Maze portal or uncovering hidden threats during investigations. He participated in missions spanning the Core Cell conflict and high-stakes brawls in *Geogan Rising* and *Evolutions*.
