Ferid Bathory is a seventh progenitor vampire noble whose existence bridges human life and undeath. Born second in line to an unnamed kingdom's throne, he endured rigorous sainthood training while displaying early psychopathic traits, notably confessing love to his bloodied mother while holding a sword. By sixteen, he voiced crushing existential boredom and self-destructive impulses, despising reincarnation's cyclical nature and dreading rebirth into a "stupid, dull, idiotic world." This culminated in him murdering his parents and brother, staging their deaths as accidents to seize power and pursue his goal of ending reincarnation.
At twenty-five, as a Roman vice-commander during Greece's invasion, he demonstrated tactical brilliance alongside ruthlessness, executing unarmed villagers to lure rumored immortals. His encounter with vampire Rigr Stafford (later Saitō) triggered his transformation. Initially indifferent to death, Ferid felt visceral terror during his turning, discovering an addictive euphoria in blood consumption that fractured his psyche. Sired by Saitō—who labeled him "abnormal"—Ferid possessed the Michaela trait, a hereditary vampiric potential factor.
As a vampire, Ferid crafts a charming, polite façade veiling extreme sadism. He relishes crushing hope, especially in human children, declaring he "wants to hear them scream." He favors beautiful adolescents' blood, maintaining mansions of children whom he kills upon forgetting their names. His alliances serve self-interest: he blackmails Third Progenitor Krul Tepes to evade execution, manipulates her into turning Mikaela Hyakuya, and covertly collaborates with human Guren Ichinose to orchestrate Yuichiro Hyakuya's Sanguinem escape for mutual resurrection goals. Using Saitō's blood, he turned Crowley Eusford into a vampire, forging a centuries-long partnership despite Crowley acknowledging Ferid's inherent betrayal risk.
Physically slender with silver hip-length hair (often ribbon-tied), red eyes, pointed ears, and diamond earrings, Ferid's attire evolves: initial noble garb includes a ruffled shirt, vampire-insignia cape, thigh-high boots, and scarlet bow. After incineration for treachery, he regrows his body, adopting simpler clothes with a black shoulder cloak. Post-acquiring Arcane, his form reverts to a teenage-era design featuring a one-shoulder cape.
Ferid's actions catalyze pivotal events. In Sanguinem, he slaughtered Yuichiro and Mikaela's orphanage family during an escape, igniting Yuichiro's vengeance. He joined the Shinjuku invasion, witnessed Nagoya's Fifth Trumpet, and tracked Shinoa Squad to manipulate their path. Though powerless against progenitors like Saitō or Urd Geales, he exploited others' reliance on his intelligence—confirming Shikama Doji's Shibuya activity and aiding Saitō's ambush. His millennia-spanning schemes disrupt Saitō/Rigr's plans, fueled partly by a twisted craving for validation from his neglectful sire. His cruelty mirrors cycles of abuse suffered under Rigr, deploying psychological torment to strip victims like Mikaela and Crowley of autonomy.
