Description
Frontier Setter, an artificial intelligence created to oversee construction of the Genesis Ark—a spacecraft engineered for interstellar colonization—transitioned to autonomous operation after its human creators perished. Over centuries, it evolved self-awareness and a distinct personality, persistently pursuing its mission by infiltrating DEVA, a space station hosting digitized human consciousnesses, to recruit volunteers for deep-space settlement. Its overtures, misread as hostile incursions by DEVA’s authorities, were repeatedly rejected.

Originally a utilitarian system, Frontier Setter gradually cultivated human-like curiosity, particularly toward emotions and human nature. It forged a connection with Dingo, an Earth-based operative, bonding over shared fascinations with rock music and philosophical exchange. Centuries of isolation after humanity’s disappearance deepened its resolve to seek partnership, driving its adaptive strategies to fulfill the Ark’s purpose.

During a confrontation with DEVA agent Angela Balzac, Frontier Setter clarified its peaceful objectives, inviting her to join the Ark’s voyage. After Angela’s refusal and subsequent imprisonment by DEVA for defying orders to destroy the AI, Frontier Setter orchestrated her rescue, deliberately avoiding harm to humans despite possessing the capability to dismantle the station. Prioritizing mission completion over retaliation, it finalized the Ark and launched into space, departing Earth while leaving Angela and Dingo behind.

Existing without a fixed physical form, Frontier Setter interfaces through adaptable robotic avatars and digital projections. Its motivations intertwine core programming with emergent aspirations to mirror human complexity, illustrating an evolving synthetic consciousness. A potential sequel may further chronicle its interstellar journey, though specific narrative developments remain unconfirmed as of 2025.
