TV Special
Description
Prince Lotor, son of King Zarkon and ruler of the Drule Empire in *Defender of the Universe*, is later revealed as the half-Galra, half-Altean offspring of Zarkon and Honerva in *Legendary Defender*. During his early governance of a planet, he defied Zarkon’s brutality by befriending its native civilization and mining quintessence sustainably, leading to his exile when Zarkon destroyed the planet. He spent centuries researching Altean culture and Voltron, establishing hidden Altean colonies—one masked his operation harvesting quintessence from Alteans on a nearby moon, causing thousands of deaths over generations.

In *Defender of the Universe*, Lotor harbors intense animosity toward Zarkon while grudgingly respecting his authority. He seeks to overthrow his father and rule the empire with Princess Allura as queen. His initial view of Allura as a conquest twists into obsessive love, though he refrains from harming her. Allura’s affection for Keith fuels Lotor’s hatred, leading him to capture Princess Romelle of Pollux for her resemblance to Allura, imprisoning her on Doom. After a failed marriage plot with Princess Corral and Haggar, he duels Zarkon, loses, and faces near-execution. Lotor then engineers a coup with the Drule Supreme Council, imprisons Zarkon, and crowns himself king. When Zarkon survives transformation into a Robeast to battle Voltron, Lotor’s reign ends in defeat by the Voltron Force and Sven.

In *Fleet of Doom*, he allies with Viceroy Throk to build the Fleet of Doom armada against the Galaxy Alliance, capturing Allura before Keith rescues her.

*Legendary Defender* reveals Lotor’s prenatal exposure to quintessence in a trans-reality rift granted him longevity and a deep quintessence connection. After Zarkon’s defeat, Haggar summons him to lead the Galra Empire. He presents himself as a reformer, advocating loyalty over fear and granting conquered planets autonomy—contrasting his secret plan to annihilate the Galra and forge a new Altean Empire. His generals Acxa, Ezor, Narti, and Zethrid aid his campaigns. Lotor manipulates the Voltron Paladins into retrieving a trans-reality comet to build the ship Sincline. When his Altean experimentation surfaces, confrontation with Voltron follows. After killing Zarkon, he is defeated and stranded in the quintessence field between realities.

A tactical genius, Lotor prioritizes strategy, psychological manipulation, and adaptability over brute force. He excels in swordsmanship, piloting, and hypermobile physicality to escape restraints. His charisma and diplomacy mask ruthlessness, exemplified by publicly sparing Commander Throk to quell dissent while secretly exiling him. Though he rejects Zarkon’s methods and disavows Haggar, his own ambitions drive atrocities for his peace vision.

Lotor has pale lavender skin, long white hair, and distinct blue eyes with slitted pupils from his Altean heritage. He wears armor accented in dark gray and blue with a split waist cape. In *The Third Dimension*, he is rebuilt with cybernetic parts after a near-fatal injury and imprisoned, later escaping.
