TV Special
Description
Ruling Planet Doom as a key figure in the Drule Empire, King Zarkon commands significant autonomy despite his technical subordination to Emperor Zeppo and the Drule Supreme Council. His strained relationship with the empire's central authority arises from consistently prioritizing personal ambitions over imperial interests. Serving as the primary antagonist in "Voltron: Fleet of Doom," Zarkon forges an alliance with Viceroy Throk to construct the massive Fleet of Doom warship armada. This formidable force represents a strategic escalation in his campaign to conquer the Denubian Galaxy and destroy the Galaxy Alliance, specifically threatening the Alliance's secret power base and forcing the unprecedented collaboration of the Lion Force and Vehicle Team Voltron defenders.

Zarkon embodies ruthless ambition and an intolerance for failure. He stages cruel gladiatorial battles for his amusement and demands absolute success from subordinates, executing commanders for perceived weakness or insufficient results. He frequently belittles and manipulates close associates, including his son Prince Lotor and the witch Haggar, viewing them primarily as tools for achieving dominance. While he openly enjoys sensory pleasures like feasting and the company of attractive women, these indulgences never override his strategic objectives.

His physical resilience stems from unnatural longevity achieved through Haggar's magic and an elixir derived from the roses of planet Lyra. This extended lifespan facilitated prolonged military campaigns, including the devastating invasion of Arus approximately a decade prior, where he killed King Alfor in battle at the Valley of Zophar and enslaved most of the planet's population. A protective spell renders him immune to conventional poisons and assassination attempts.

The special culminates in his defeat when the combined Voltron forces thwart the Fleet of Doom's attack, preventing Zarkon from crushing the Galaxy Alliance. Nevertheless, his broader campaign of conquest continues beyond this engagement, underscoring his persistent ambition to dominate the Denubian Galaxy through military might and strategic alliances.
