Hakurou is a mixed-race ogre who remained secluded from the world, dedicating himself entirely to refining his swordsmanship. He became the strongest swordsman in the Ogre Tribe's royal guard, surpassing even the tribe's head despite his mixed heritage. He initially existed without a name.

After encountering Rimuru Tempest, Hakurou pledged allegiance and received the name "Hakurou" from him. This naming caused a transformation: magical energy escaped his body, mixed with the surrounding environment, and reassembled. While his total energy remained unchanged, its quality improved significantly, rejuvenating his body and altering his appearance from middle-aged to that of an individual in his prime.

His combat capabilities are significant. Though his magical energy capacity ranks him as an A-Rank monster conventionally, his exceptional swordsmanship elevates him to Disaster-Rank in human evaluations. This proficiency comes from rigorous training and Gifts received during Rimuru's Harvest Festival. He demonstrated remarkable skill by holding his own in a sparring match with the Demon Lord Milim, though his attacks failed to land.

Hakurou possesses numerous advanced abilities. His Unique Skills include Martial Master (which absorbed his former Extra Skill Heavenly Eye), Thought Acceleration, Ultra Acceleration, Future Prediction, and Mystery. His Extra Skills are Mana Perception, Multilayer Barrier, and Steel Strength. He holds the Common Skills Coercion and Thought Communication, along with Tolerances for Abnormal Condition Nullification and Spiritual Attack Resistance. Thought Acceleration allows him to accelerate his perception a thousandfold, enhancing his reaction times.

He practices specialized combat techniques. His Battlewill Arts include Formhide (for masking presence and body temperature), Haze, Instantmove, and Modelwill. His Hazy Style Sword Arts encompass Flowing Water Slash, Instant Light Slash, Thunder of Heaven and Earth, and the advanced technique Double Cherry Blossoms - Eight Petals Flash. He is also an expert martial artist proficient in traditional combat-oriented Jujutsu, which he teaches to others like Shuna.

Hakurou serves as a master swordsman instructor within the Jura Tempest Federation. He trains individuals such as Gobta, recognizing and nurturing the hobgoblin's latent talent in sword skills. He also instructed Gobzo, who later sacrificed himself protecting Shuna and was revived as a Death Onie, joining Shion's Yomigaeri unit.

His primary weapon is the Legend-grade cane-shaped katana Samegumo, forged and upgraded by Kurobe. This blade is alternatively referenced as Hakurou's Cane Katana or Hakurou's Swordstick in other media.
