Description
Ken Masters hails from a wealthy American family; his father owns a prominent hotel chain. Seeking discipline for his teenage son, Ken's father sent him to train in Japan under martial arts master Gouken. There, Ken forged a close bond and intense rivalry with Gouken's adopted son, Ryu, both mastering the Ansatsuken fighting style. Though initially hesitant, Ken embraced martial arts, developing a more aggressive and unorthodox approach compared to Ryu's traditional methods. He dyes his naturally black hair blonde and wears a distinctive red gi, reflecting his flashy style.

After training, Ken returned to the US, achieving significant success in martial arts tournaments. He met and married Eliza, sister to Guile's wife. Ken's life balanced his fighting career with growing family responsibilities, alongside founding the successful Masters Foundation. Despite his privilege, he maintained a fierce competitive spirit, especially in his rivalry with Ryu. Ken witnessed Akuma attack Gouken; he intervened but was swiftly defeated. Later, he gifted Ryu his red headband when Ryu struggled with inner darkness, symbolizing their bond and Ken's desire to help his friend stay focused.

During Eliza's pregnancy ("Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind"), Ken prioritized family, declining involvement in conflicts and an interview with Crimson Viper (posing as a reporter). He felt detached from his former fighting life, no longer fully relating to Ryu's solitary path. When fighters disappeared and S.I.N. targeted Ryu for the Satsui no Hado, Ken was drawn back. Crimson Viper bugged a doll given to Eliza and later kidnapped her, demanding Ken bring Ryu to S.I.N. as leverage.

Threatened with harm to his wife and unborn child, Ken joined the mission to infiltrate a S.I.N. cruise ship. He confronted Crimson Viper, blocking her powerful attack – which had previously overwhelmed Ryu – demonstrating resilience fueled by his desire to protect his family. This revealed a power within Ken described as the opposite of the Satsui no Hado, rooted in safeguarding loved ones. He successfully rescued Eliza, who revealed her pregnancy during the ordeal, deepening his commitment.

Ken continued balancing family life with occasional tournaments, training his son Mel and reluctantly mentoring Brazilian fighter Sean. By Street Fighter 6, his life drastically changed. Accused of orchestrating a criminal plot related to the Nayshall incident and framed by JP, Ken lost control of the Masters Foundation. Forced into hiding to protect his family, he severed ties with allies like Guile and adopted a more rugged appearance, working anonymously for Eagle Shipping Company. This marked a significant shift, portraying Ken as more somber and burdened by his tarnished reputation and separation from his family, though his core drive to protect them remained.

Ken's personality contrasts with Ryu's stoicism; he is characterized as stylish, boastful, aggressive, and unpredictable, often taunting defeated opponents. Despite his brash exterior, he possesses a strong moral code based on honor, discipline, and respect learned from Gouken. His devotion to Eliza and Mel is central, influencing major decisions like his initial tournament hesitation and his desperate actions during exile. Relationships with Ryu (his closest friend), Guile (his brother-in-law), and allies like Chun-Li and Sakura are crucial, though he isolates himself in Street Fighter 6 to avoid endangering them.
