Description
Ritoku Komaba, a Level 0 esper, commands Skill-Out—the largest armed faction of Academy City’s powerless. Towering at 230 cm with an imposing, gorilla-like frame, his appearance masks a disciplined leader governed by honor, restraint, and an unwavering moral code. He enforces strict protocols to shield civilians, directing his faction’s aggression solely toward espers who exploit their abilities to torment the powerless. His protective resolve centers on Fremea Seivelun, a child under his care, whose well-being fuels his defiance.

To counter his lack of supernatural power, Komaba wields cutting-edge technology. Hard Taping—military-grade ultrasonic bandages designed for powered exoskeletons—wraps his body, granting superhuman speed and strength to shred metal or hurl debris through vehicles and pavement. Prolonged use risks crippling his muscles and joints. His Smart Weapon, a modular firearm, scans targets via infrared to craft specialized ammunition: armor-piercing rounds, non-lethal projectiles, and more. Chaff Seeds, miniature jamming devices, scatter to disrupt enemy communications and disable esper powers dependent on external networks.

During the Skill-Out Uprising, Komaba orchestrates a scheme to collapse Academy City’s security by flooding it with cascading Code Orange alerts. Synchronizing homemade explosives and systemic vulnerabilities, he crashes the network, enabling Skill-Out’s operations. With critical data confined to his knowledge, the shadowy GROUP prioritizes his elimination. Confronting Accelerator, Komaba deploys Chaff Seeds to nullify the esper’s automatic defenses, engaging him in brutal close-quarters combat. Though briefly outmaneuvering his foe, a momentary lapse in signal jamming allows Accelerator to retaliate. In his final moments, Komaba deliberately activates his opponent’s reflection to ensure his death—a defiant rejection of the city’s oppressive hierarchy.

Komaba’s past hints at a younger sister in primary school, though their dynamic remains unexplored. His bond with Skill-Out members Hamazura Shiage and Hattori Hanzou cements his role as both mentor and moral compass. His demise profoundly impacts Hamazura, catalyzing the latter’s growth as a leader. Posthumously, Accelerator honors Komaba’s legacy by targeting the list of abusive espers he compiled.

Komaba’s arc intertwines sacrifice with the moral ambiguities of resisting systemic oppression. A tactician who shields the vulnerable, his actions blur traditional lines between heroism and antagonism, challenging the narrative’s power dynamics through calculated rebellion and unyielding principles.
