Description
Hatori Soma, burdened by the Sohma family’s Dragon Zodiac curse, fulfills dual roles as their physician and wielder of a hereditary memory-altering ability. This duty compels him to erase outsiders’ knowledge of the curse, a task steeped in guilt after severing Yuki’s childhood friendships and Momiji’s maternal bond, fostering his conviction that happiness remains beyond his reach.

Born prematurely under the Dragon’s influence and raised in austerity, he endured early losses—his mother’s death in childhood and his father’s passing during his teens, thrusting him into the memory-suppressor role. During school years, he forged the "Mabudachi Trio" with Shigure and Ayame, anchoring their mischief with stoic composure, though subtle wit surfaces occasionally, like coaxing Yuki and Kyo into an unwilling photograph.

Two years before the main narrative, his engagement to Kana, his medical assistant, shattered when Akito, the family head, violently assaulted him, nearly blinding his left eye. Tormented by remorse, Kana pleaded for her memories of their love to be erased—a wish Hatori granted despite his anguish, reinforcing his belief that Zodiac members must avoid romance to spare others pain.

Following Kana’s marriage, Hatori tentatively connects with Mayuko Shiraki, her best friend, introduced through Shigure’s scheming. Mayuko’s steadfast empathy gradually chips at his self-reproach, culminating in marriage and a daughter, Kinu, in *Fruits Basket Another*. This union mirrors his emotional recovery and hesitant embrace of joy.

As a guardian to younger Zodiacs, he quietly monitors Momiji, haunted by erasing his mother’s memories. Initially wary of Tohru Honda’s involvement with the Sohmas, fearing Kana’s fate, he later champions her crusade to dismantle the curse, acknowledging her transformative impact. His Dragon form—a seahorse he finds mildly mortifying—rarely emerges due to his disciplined restraint.

In *Fruits Basket Another*, Hatori balances familial devotion with his medical duties, embodying the Sohmas’ post-curse renewal. His journey from solitary atonement to quiet contentment underscores the family’s collective healing, marking a life reshaped by resilience and reluctant hope.
