Description
Hiro Soma embodies the Sheep of the Chinese Zodiac within the Sohma family, transforming into a lamb if embraced by someone of the opposite sex or when physically weakened. Approximately 11-12 years old during the main events, he has dark brown hair, brown eyes, and an average build, typically dressed in neat school uniforms or tailored clothing with a preference for winter attire.

Born prematurely, Hiro transformed during his first hug from his mother, Satsuki Sohma, whose unconditional acceptance granted him a relatively peaceful upbringing—uncommon among the cursed. His early life centered on a close friendship with Kisa Sohma, the Tiger zodiac, attending elementary school together. He developed deep feelings for Kisa and confessed his love to family head Akito Sohma. Akito's violent retaliation hospitalized Kisa after a severe beating. Hiro blamed himself and avoided Kisa to shield her, yet remained tormented by his inability to stop her school bullying.

Hiro initially displays sharp intelligence, sarcasm, and verbal aggression, using sophisticated language to belittle others while masking insecurity and jealousy. Resentment surfaces upon meeting Tohru Honda: he steals her wallet—containing a photo of her late mother—and criticizes her submissive nature. After Kisa and others intervene, Hiro returns the wallet, and Tohru hugs him as punishment, revealing his sheep form. His hostility toward Tohru stems from jealousy over her bond with Kisa, whom he felt he failed. Later, he confides in Tohru about his guilt over Kisa's suffering; Tohru's encouragement inspires him to strive as a protective "prince."

Hiro accidentally witnesses Akito pushing Isuzu Sohma, the Horse zodiac, out of a window. Akito and Isuzu force him into silence, fearing Hatsuharu Sohma's reaction. This secret deepens Hiro's guilt and isolation, though he eventually reveals the truth to Hatsuharu and Kisa, driven to end the cycle of silence.

The birth of his sister Hinata, twelve years his junior, intensifies Hiro's development. Her innocence prompts reflection on his vanity and fears, motivating him to mature into a protector. He softens his abrasive demeanor, showing increased patience and kindness. His curse breaks relatively early—third among the zodiac—fueled by his resolve to shield loved ones. Upon gaining freedom, his first act is holding Hinata, symbolizing his role as an older brother.

In the series' conclusion, Hiro and Kisa imply a romantic relationship, seen together with her holding his arm as they process Tohru's impending move. His journey culminates in a commitment to strength and self-improvement, shifting from bitterness toward care and responsibility.
