Description
Uraha acts as personal caretaker and tutor for Kannabi-no-Mikoto, one of the last winged beings, at a sanctuary for her kind. She defies the shrine's prevailing prejudice with fierce devotion to Kanna, balancing nurturing guidance with stern discipline. Her commitment to Kanna's safety and emotional health shapes all her actions.

She bears long green hair and yellow eyes, embodying a blend of strictness and profound care. Poetry holds deep value for her—she deems a mouth unable to recite verse worthless—and her travels reveal cultural refinement and sharp perceptiveness. During their flight from the shrine and evasion of imperial forces, she demonstrates resourcefulness and stealth.

Born once every few centuries with potent psychic and magical Houjutsu abilities, Uraha refines her sorcery under monks protecting the winged race. Her power proves substantial enough to forge the sentient puppet later wielded by her descendant Yukito Kunisaki.

When mercenaries destroy their shrine in a coup attempt, Uraha escapes with Kanna and the samurai Ryuya. Their quest focuses on finding Kanna’s mother, Yao Bikuni, imprisoned at a Buddhist shrine. After a violent confrontation there kills Yao and triggers Kanna’s banishment into an eternal nightmare through a Buddhist curse, Uraha and Ryuya journey together. They seek knowledge of Kanna’s fate and settle with temple monks. Learning the curse requires centuries to break, Uraha devises a generational strategy: bearing Ryuya’s child so descendants can continue Kanna’s rescue. Their union establishes the bloodline culminating in Yukito Kunisaki.

Her bond with Ryuya evolves from comrades-in-arms to mission partners. While the visual novel shows romantic involvement developing post-Kanna’s disappearance, the movie frames Ryuya primarily as Kanna’s lover without explicit ties to Uraha. Regardless, she persists in their goal. Ryuya later dies from a curse-sourced injury before their child’s birth.

Uraha’s legacy flows through her bloodline. Yukito inherits her diminished magical abilities and the family mission to find the "girl in the sky" (Kanna’s reincarnation). Theories suggest her lineage may branch, potentially linking to modern characters like Minagi Tohno through shared traits like stealth and intense loyalty to loved ones.
