Description
Jun Honoo, also known as Jun Hono, is a central figure in the Great Mazinger narrative. Born to a Japanese mother and an African-American father, she was orphaned when her parents died in an unspecified battle. As a child in an orphanage, she endured racial discrimination and bullying for being biracial, resulting in deep-seated insecurities about her appearance. This trauma manifested in her scrubbing her skin until it bled in an attempt to lighten it; she also tore a picture of her biological father during this distress.

Dr. Kenzo Kabuto adopted her at age 11 and subjected her to rigorous combat training. He prepared her to pilot the Venus A, a combat robot designed to support Great Mazinger against the Mycenae Empire. Jun developed impressive physical abilities, including acrobatic skills, proficiency in disarming opponents, and expertise in motorcycle combat. She demonstrated these skills piloting Venus A and in ground battles, such as fighting Warrior Beasts using only her motorcycle or Tetsuya Tsurugi's Jet Bai before Venus A became operational.

Jun's personality blends compassion with resilience. She often acts protectively, especially toward Shiro Kabuto, Kenzo's son, whom she encouraged to live at the Science Fortress Laboratory to ease his loneliness. She supports Tetsuya Tsurugi, her childhood friend and fellow pilot, though their relationship evolves significantly over time. Initially portrayed as sibling-like by Kenzo, their bond deepens, culminating in marriage and parenthood a decade after the Mycenaean conflict. Jun is forthright, advising Shiro against excessive reliance on others or critiquing Tetsuya's brashness during arguments.

Her combat achievements include solo victories against three Warrior Beasts (Diacus, Peacong, and Achilles) and one general (Angoras). She piloted Venus A effectively in diverse scenarios, from routine deployments to high-stakes battles, and adapted quickly to new equipment like the Venus Scrander without prior testing. During the Mycenae Empire's final assault, she fought alongside Koji Kabuto, Sayaka Yumi, and others to defend Japan. After the conflict, she comforted Tetsuya as he grappled with guilt over Kenzo's death.

In the film *Mazinger Z: Infinity*, set ten years later, Jun is married to Tetsuya and pregnant. Visiting the Photon Power Laboratory, she notices Sayaka's emotional distress and offers relationship advice. When Tetsuya disappears fighting resurrected Mechanical Beasts, Jun attempts to pilot Venus A but is physically unable due to her advanced pregnancy. Arrested for unauthorized boarding, she later goes into labor and gives birth. The film concludes with Jun, Tetsuya, and their child visiting Koji in the hospital.

In the *Mazinkaiser* OVA continuity, Jun serves as an aide at the Photon Power Laboratory. Though not shown piloting, she supports operations by managing communications and lab systems during attacks by Dr. Hell's forces. Her visible concern for Tetsuya's safety implies deeper emotional ties consistent with her character's development.

Jun's childhood friend Shinichiro Ikuta reappears during the Mycenaean conflict as a directionless biker. She tries to guide him, but his attempt to broker peace with the Mycenae Empire backfires, resulting in his transformation into a Warrior Beast and subsequent death. This event reinforces Jun's resolve to prevent further war-related suffering, a mission she articulates as representing "people who hate war."

Her interactions showcase her multifaceted role: she tolerates but dismisses Boss's romantic advances, endures Kenzo's grief over family secrets, and navigates Tetsuya's jealousy toward Koji. Her journey reflects themes of identity and belonging, marked by her rejection of racial prejudice, symbolized by her declaration that "the color of my skin doesn't matter."
