Description
Marco Lasso, born November 17, 1973, in Sicily, Italy, lost his parents in a childhood accident. Raised in a Catholic orphanage under Reverend Luchist Lasso, he endured bullying and discovered passions for ballet and cars through Luchist's influence. After graduating from the University of Toledo, Marco founded the supercar dealership Super Marco LLC; his prized possession was a red 1992 Ferrari Testarossa. A pivotal tragedy occurred when Asakura Hao destroyed the orphanage and Marco's company, killing the children. This event ignited Marco's vow of vengeance against Hao.
Marco co-founded the X-Laws organization with Luchist to eliminate Hao. At Mont-Saint-Michel, France, they discovered an orphaned girl named Jeanne, raising her to believe she was a holy figure destined to defeat Hao. Marco served as the X-Laws' de facto leader, subordinate only to "Iron Maiden Jeanne." Luchist's later defection to Hao's followers deeply wounded Marco, intensifying his hatred for his former mentor.
Physically, Marco possesses blonde hair and blue eyes. He wears glasses due to high astigmatism and carries three spare pairs in his shoulder pad, as they break easily under stress. His standard attire is the X-Laws uniform, but he also wears a personal battle uniform beneath it: black boots, black shorts, and an unbuttoned white dress shirt revealing a cross necklace. This uniform enhances his spiritual connection during combat. Off-duty, he favors simple formal wear or a white suit while driving Jeanne.
Initially, Marco held rigid, absolutist views of justice, categorizing people as purely "good" or "evil" based on loyalty to the X-Laws. He enforced strict discipline, physically punishing allies like Lyserg Diethel for disobedience. His impatience and temper frequently caused him to crush his glasses. High-quality chocolate and coffee sometimes calmed him, with Jeanne acting as his primary emotional anchor. After two confrontations with Luchist, Marco's perspective evolved; he recognized "true justice is love" and acknowledged flaws in his earlier ideology.
As a shaman, Marco wields the archangel Michael, a spirit formed from his Ferrari Testarossa fused with a fragment of the actual archangel. His primary medium is a 9mm bullet fired from a modified Beretta 93R pistol, "Sword No-001 Marco Full Auto 9." Michael enables large-scale Oversouls – spiritual mechas capable of flight, mountain-level destruction, and soul-shattering. Marco can manifest a duplicate, "O.S. Fake Marco," using his glasses as a medium; this replica lacks a shadow. His combat style emphasizes vehicle mastery and strategic duplication. Key techniques include Hyōi Gattai (spirit integration) and Oversoul summoning, with Michael often fighting independently while Marco observes from its shoulder.
During the Shaman Fight tournament, Marco led Team "X-I" with Jeanne and Lyserg. He recruited Lyserg after the latter grew disillusioned with Yoh Asakura, offering enhanced strength through the X-Laws. Marco later doubted Lyserg's loyalty but entrusted him with the archangel Zelel. In a critical duel against Luchist at Mu Continent, Marco insisted on settling their conflict alone. Initially overpowered, he used his Fake Marco technique to create an opening and secure victory.
After Hao became Shaman King, Marco chose to train in Hell rather than reincarnate immediately, seeking rebirth as a full angel. This transformed him into a young boy possessing immense power capable of overwhelming Lucifer. However, his new body cannot fully contain this energy, risking disintegration if overexerted. In the sequel arc Flower of Maize, he formed "Team Marcos" to oppose the Lasso Family and their capitalist-aligned faction, Team YVS.
Marco's story continues in the spin-off *Shaman King: Marcos*, navigating the Flower of Maize tournament, with his angelic rebirth and opposition to his biological family's legacy central to the narrative.
