Description
Lacus Clyne is the daughter of PLANT Supreme Council Chairman Siegel Clyne. She built a career as a popular idol singer within the PLANTs, earning significant public recognition. Initially engaged to Athrun Zala to unite their families politically, their relationship remained more contractual than romantic, though they sustained a respectful connection.
Her introduction occurs when the civilian vessel Silverwind, transporting her to a Junius Seven memorial, is attacked by an Earth Alliance battleship. Escaping in a life pod, she is rescued by Kira Yamato and brought aboard the Archangel. As a Coordinator on a Natural-majority ship, she interacts kindly with the crew. She forms a bond with Kira, comforting him during emotional distress and learning of his friendship with Athrun. Kira later returns her to Athrun and ZAFT.
Back in the PLANTs, she shelters a wounded Kira Yamato at her home, nursing him to health with aid from Reverend Malchio. Their relationship deepens during this period. She provides him with a ZAFT uniform and helps him steal the prototype mobile suit ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam so he can protect his friends and pursue peace. This act results in her and her father being branded traitors by ZAFT. Her father is later killed by ZAFT soldiers under Patrick Zala's orders.
Following these events, she goes into hiding and assumes leadership of the Clyne Faction. She commandeers the support ship Eternal and subsequently forms the Three Ships Alliance with the Archangel and the Orb Union's Kusanagi, dedicated to ending the war between Coordinators and Naturals. She reunites with Kira, confesses her love, and gives him a ring that belonged to her mother before the final battle.
In the ensuing conflict, she becomes chairperson of the PLANT council and co-leader of Terminal, an organization countering emerging threats. An assassination attempt by Coordinators compels her return to active involvement in the war. She travels to space to assess the political situation in the PLANTs and delivers the new mobile suits Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice to Kira and Athrun. She publicly exposes ZAFT's use of an impersonator, Meer Campbell, for propaganda. She leads her faction in the final battle to stop Gilbert Durandal's Destiny Plan.
Later, she is invited to mediate between ZAFT and other nations post-war. She is revealed to be an Accord, a Coordinator variant with enhanced mental and telepathic abilities, and serves as co-pilot of the ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam during the Foundation Conflict.
Her personality seems naive and idealistic at first, owing to her pacifist and philosophical nature. Beneath her pop idol persona, she exhibits a keen understanding of political dynamics and the roots of war. She is charismatic, strong-willed, and resolute in leadership. She advocates for peaceful coexistence between Naturals and Coordinators and opposes retaliatory cycles that fuel conflict.
Her Coordinator and Accord genetics grant enhanced abilities, though their full scope is unspecified. Her most notable talents are singing and dancing. She demonstrates skill in delegation and command, particularly when in SEED mode, which heightens her coordination. She is capable of piloting mobile suits and, as an Accord, possesses limited telepathic powers.
A recurring element is her willful pink Haro robot, which often declares, "I won't accept that," mirroring her inner strength and defiance. Her actions frequently involve a performance of hyperfemininity, which she employs strategically to navigate political and military landscapes, leveraging others' perceptions to secure advantages and gather intelligence.
