Description
Kanako Ohno, alias Kannazuki Yohko, is a member of Shiiou University’s Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture (Genshiken). After living in the U.S. from third grade through high school, she returned to Japan and joined Genshiken in the fall term as its first voluntary female member. Initially timid and anxious, she grew self-assured through club engagements, succeeding Sasahara Kanji as the group’s fourth chairman.
Her defining passions include cosplay and a niche fascination with yaoi centered on middle-aged, muscular, bald men—termed "oyajicon." This interest drew her to Genshiken, the sole group embracing her unconventional tastes. She insists on meticulous cosplay accuracy, demanding full embodiment of characters, yet playfully bends rules for risqué portrayals. Collaborating with Souichirou Tanaka, her elaborate costumes became festival highlights, elevating the club’s prominence.
Kanako forged a deep bond with Tanaka, rooted in shared cosplay enthusiasm, evolving into romance. She postponed job-seeking to support his academic pursuits, signaling aspirations toward homemaking or creative partnership. As a mentor, she nudged peers like Saki Kasukabe and Chika Ogiue into cosplay and otaku culture, despite resistance, and sparked Susanna Hopkins’ interest in yaoi, nurturing a younger fan.
Leading Genshiken, she balanced creative zeal with administrative duties before passing the presidency to Ogiue. Her journey from reticence to bold advocacy for her hobbies underscores her growth. Through media appearances, including *Kujibiki Unbalance* cosplay in OVAs, she embodies Genshiken’s fusion of quirky dedication and subcultural passion.
