Description
Detective Hazama Itsuro, an ex-police officer, transitions into operating a private detective agency. His police background informs his investigative skills. Hired to investigate the theft of advanced cybernetics technology from Professor Tani’s laboratory – hardware later weaponized for criminal "cyber-junkies" – Hazama is violently killed by an unknown cyborg assailant during this investigation.

Professor Tani subsequently utilizes Hazama’s body and consciousness as a bio-template to create a new iteration of the 8 Man cyborg, replacing the original who disappeared. This process resurrects Hazama as a technologically advanced android possessing superhuman strength, speed, and durability. To maintain secrecy, he continues operating under his original identity as a private detective while functioning as the new 8 Man.

Hazama’s personality reflects cynicism and a more aggressive approach to crime-fighting than his predecessor. His cyborg transformation forces him to grapple with his human consciousness and emotions—particularly lingering rage over his own murder—against the demands of his new role as an emotionless enforcer. This internal conflict drives him to employ extreme violence against cybernetically enhanced criminals, prompting him to question if he is becoming as destructive as his enemies. His struggle centers on balancing human instincts with programmed responsibilities.

His investigation intersects with Sachiko Yokogawa, a figure connected to the original 8 Man and now employed by the corporation Biotecho, deepening his mission's complexity within their professional relationship. Navigating his detective persona as cover, Hazama confronts the criminal underworld's illicit cybernetics proliferation. He is driven to dismantle the operations supplying these enhancements, especially those linked to his murder and the criminal network known as the Puppetmaster.
