Description
Daiki Aomine is a tall, athletically built young man with short navy blue hair and slanted eyes of the same color. He stands at 192 centimeters and weighs 85 kilograms.

Aomine is the ace player of the Generation of Miracles, a group of supremely talented basketball players from Teikō Junior High, where he held the position of power forward and wore the number six jersey. He currently plays the same position for Tōō Academy, wearing the number five jersey. His playing style was forged on street basketball courts rather than through formal training, which is the foundation of his unpredictable and fluid movements. This background allows him to execute dribbling and shooting techniques that defy standard basketball fundamentals, making him exceptionally difficult to guard. His signature ability is the Formless Shot, which permits him to score from virtually any position or body angle on the court, even in mid-air, facing away from the basket, or from behind the backboard. He possesses extraordinary speed, agility, and reflexes, characterized as having animal instincts comparable to a panther, which heightens his senses and allows him to play on pure feeling. Among the Generation of Miracles, Aomine is considered to transcend the others in terms of sheer speed and agility. He can also access a heightened state of focus and physical output known as the Zone, which at least doubles his speed and power; his personal trigger for entering this state is facing a worthy opponent.

In his first and second years of middle school, Aomine was an outgoing, friendly, and passionate player who loved basketball deeply. He was close friends with Tetsuya Kuroko, who was his teammate and the "shadow" to his "light" on the court, and he inspired Ryōta Kise to begin playing basketball, becoming his mentor. However, as Aomine's natural talent blossomed to an overwhelming degree, he began to dominate every opponent with ease, causing them to lose their will to compete. This lack of challenge led to frustration and disillusionment, as he could no longer find joy in a sport he loved. He became sardonic, unenthusiastic, and arrogant, frequently skipping practice and arriving late for matches while adopting the personal mantra that the only one who can beat him is himself. Despite this cold exterior, he remains fiercely protective of his former Teikō teammates, once confronting a player who insulted Kuroko and physically intervening to protect Kise from an aggressor.

Aomine is childhood friends with Satsuki Momoi, who acts as a team manager and looks after him with great concern, even following him to Tōō Academy instead of her preferred school. Their relationship is sibling-like; he is protective of her, and she is one of the few people who can reliably get him to cooperate, though he often finds her fussing tiresome. His relationship with Kuroko is central to his arc. They were once the inseparable light and shadow duo, but Aomine's growing power and isolation led him to declare he could no longer receive Kuroko's passes, effectively ending their partnership. He later reconciles with Kuroko after a pivotal defeat, and the two resume a friendship, with Aomine even helping Kuroko develop a new shooting technique.

Aomine's role in the story is that of a prodigious rival and a cautionary example of talent without challenge. He easily defeats the protagonist, Taiga Kagami, in their first encounter, highlighting the gap in their abilities. However, during a rematch in the Winter Cup, Kagami pushes Aomine to his limits, allowing both players to enter the Zone. For the first time in years, Aomine faces a genuine challenge and experiences the excitement of a close game. His team loses to Seirin, but this defeat rekindles his lost passion for basketball. Following this loss, he gradually returns to regular practice, begins cooperating with his teammates, and regains his earlier, more joyful approach to the sport while retaining his competitive fire.
