Daiki Aomine, a former member of the Generation of Miracles, served as the ace of Teikō Junior High's basketball team. He initially partnered with Tetsuya Kuroko as his "light," creating a highly effective shadow-and-light duo. Aomine developed his fluid, unpredictable playing style through street basketball without formal training, lacking conventional fundamentals but proving exceptionally difficult to defend. His early-recognized skills earned him a spot on Teikō's first string, where he encountered Kuroko during a late-night practice. Aomine encouraged Kuroko to continue basketball when he considered quitting and later mentored Ryōta Kise, inspiring him to join the sport. As his abilities grew exponentially, Aomine underwent significant personality changes. Transitioning from an outgoing, passionate player, he became disillusioned when opponents consistently lost the will to compete against him, finding the sport boring. He adopted the philosophy that "the only one who can beat me is me," ceased attending practices, and displayed arrogance towards opponents and teammates. He frequently arrived late to matches, neglected training, and belittled others' efforts. Despite this, he retained protectiveness toward former Teikō teammates, notably defending Kuroko from criticism and confronting Shōgo Haizaki after Haizaki targeted Kise. As the ace of Tōō Academy, Aomine prioritized individual play over teamwork. His abilities feature extraordinary speed, agility, and reflexes, often described as "animal instinct" for his panther-like court awareness. His streetball background enables unconventional dribbling and scoring, culminating in the "Formless Shot" – scoring from any position or body angle, including behind the backboard. He can enter the "Zone," a state of heightened focus and physical capability doubling his speed and power, activated by a "worthy opponent," as seen against Seirin High's Taiga Kagami. Aomine's rivalry with Kagami catalyzed his development. After losing to Seirin in the Winter Cup, he acknowledged Kagami as a worthy opponent and gradually regained his passion for basketball. He resumed regular practice, reconciled with his childhood friend and manager Momoi, and began cooperating with teammates. Playing as a double ace alongside Kagami for the Vorpal Swords against Jabberwock, Aomine demonstrated improved teamwork while retaining his aggressive style. During the match, he explicitly honored his teammates' efforts before unleashing his full capabilities in the final minutes. Physically, Aomine possesses tan skin, navy blue hair, and an athletic build. He stands 192 cm tall and wears the number 5 jersey for Tōō Academy. Off-court, he enjoys gravure idol magazines and has a noted preference for women with large chests.
