OVA
Description
Ami Kawashima enters Ohashi High School as a transfer student to Class 2-C one month after the school year begins. She is the daughter of renowned actress Anna Kawashima and previously worked as a professional model, temporarily halting her career upon transferring, resuming only during school holidays.

Physically, Ami stands 165 cm tall with long blue hair reaching her waist and violet eyes (described as hazel brown in the original novels). She possesses a more developed bust than her peers and maintains a slim figure through regular gym visits, though she has noticeable stomach fat. Her attire typically features the Ohashi High uniform or stylish outfits reflecting her modeling work; she occasionally wears concealing clothing and sunglasses to avoid public recognition.

Ami initially crafts a persona of kindness, generosity, and clumsy innocence—a facade developed from her modeling career to mask her true arrogance and self-centered nature. Her childhood friend, Yusaku Kitamura, knows her real personality and helps others see through this deception. Early interactions with Taiga Aisaka are hostile, involving taunts about Taiga's height that escalate to physical confrontations. Taiga dubs her "Baka-chi" (Stupid Chihuahua), a term that evolves from insult to affectionate nickname as their relationship shifts.

Her character development begins when transferring to Ohashi High to escape a stalker. Witnessing Taiga's fearlessness inspires her to confront the stalker directly, marking a turning point. Ami gradually sheds her false persona, embracing a more genuine, though still sharp and sarcastic, self. This includes acknowledging her jealousy of Taiga's ability to be openly authentic while accepted.

With Ryuuji Takasu, she drops her facade, believing he sees her true self. She develops romantic feelings for him but steps back upon recognizing the unresolved emotions between Ryuuji, Taiga, and Minori Kushieda. Ami demonstrates high emotional intelligence, frequently offering indirect advice about their love triangle, though frustrated by Ryuuji's naivety and Minori's evasiveness. Her dynamic with Minori is strained, particularly after Ami reveals Minori's rejection of Ryuuji during a ski trip, leading to physical altercations. They reconcile by the story's end.

Her friendship with Yusaku Kitamura remains purely platonic; he consistently supports her genuine self, even enlisting Ryuuji and Taiga to help her feel safe being authentic. Ami deeply understands Yusaku, recognizing motivations like bleaching his hair.

In the OVA "The True Meaning of Bento," occurring chronologically before episode 17, Ami affectionately calls Yusaku's grandmother "Mio-chan," whose elaborate bentos spur Ryuuji's competitive cooking. While the OVA focuses on Ryuuji's bento rivalry, Ami's role reinforces her group integration.

By the narrative's conclusion, Ami accepts that mutual understanding without romantic love is sufficient for her fulfillment. She maintains close friendships with the main cast and supports Ryuuji and Taiga's relationship. Her journey centers on reconciling her public and private selves, finding value in authenticity.
