Description
Takeo Nanachi begins as an ordinary college student thrust into supernatural turmoil after inheriting a critical task: purifying his late grandfather’s ceremonial sword at an isolated shrine during a once-in-49-years festival. There, he crosses paths with Kuraki Fuzuchi, a shaman-in-training wielding formidable psychic prowess, during her ritual initiation.

Nanachi awakens latent psychic abilities tied to ancient spiritual forces, mirroring yet initially lagging behind Kuraki’s refined skills. Uncovered memories reveal his past life as a master swordsmith bound to Kuraki’s former identity as a shrine medium, their historical entanglement shaping their present collaboration against vengeful spirits and supernatural dangers.

His cheerful generosity and occasional naivety starkly contrast Kuraki’s stoicism, his optimism tempering the grim realities of their mission. As they confront cursed relics, ancestral vendettas, and echoes of past-life conflicts, their bond solidifies into a partnership anchored in necessity and growing trust.

Though the animated adaptation outlines Nanachi’s shift from mundane student to spiritual combatant, his full evolution unfolds in the original manga and sequel *Yakumo Tatsu: Arata*. These narratives delve into the psychological strain of juggling dual lives, his deepening ancestral ties, and the complex mythology binding him to Kuraki.

While spin-offs remain unexplored, Nanachi’s heritage, burgeoning powers, and intertwined fate with Kuraki anchor the series’ core themes of reincarnation, obligation, and the clash between contemporary existence and timeless traditions.
