Description
Stephen Stills is the lead singer and guitarist for the band Sex Bob-omb, often singled out as "the talent." In his early twenties, he works as a cook at The Happy Avocado, a vegetarian restaurant, and later helps his friend Scott Pilgrim get a job there as a dishwasher. He and Scott attended the University of Toronto together and were previously in another band, Kid Chameleon, alongside Envy Adams.

Outwardly laidback and stoic, Stephen contrasts with his bandmates, though beneath his calm exterior lies deep anxiety and neuroticism. This inner tension sometimes flares into irritability, especially regarding the band's musical quality or Scott's frequent absentmindedness. He suffers from significant performance anxiety but remains passionately dedicated to his music career, regarded as the most serious and talented member of Sex Bob-omb. A central thread in his personal journey involves grappling with his sexuality; he eventually accepts his homosexuality and enters a relationship with Joseph, the producer of Sex Bob-omb's album.

His romantic history includes a volatile, on-again, off-again relationship with Julie Powers, marked by frequent arguments and breakups. During their separations, Julie often acted spitefully toward him and others. At one point, she suspected a mutual attraction between Stephen and Knives Chau, creating further conflict, though their romantic involvement ultimately ended when he began dating Joseph.

Stephen maintains a casual friendship with Scott Pilgrim, whom he met as a college roommate. He is not hesitant to critique Scott but also supports him, such as by helping him find employment. Their friendship withstands various strains caused by Scott's conflicts. His relationship with Knives Chau is amicable, though he once expressed concern over her devotion to Scott and his roommate Young Neil dating her. Any speculation of romance between them was unfounded, and they remained friends after he started seeing Joseph.

In a broader media appearance, Stephen features in a brief cameo within the graphic novel "Seconds," first seen sharing a meal with Julie Powers and later waiting for a table with Joseph.
