Description
Kabura Honda is a complex vampire character who serves as a nurse at a human hospital, where she works the night shift. She is a member of a group of socially active vampires led by Nico Hirata. Her outward demeanor is often calm and composed, but she possesses a playful and teasing side, particularly when interacting with her fellow vampires. She enjoys alcohol and has a reputation for being interested in pursuing people who are already in relationships, believing that claims of complete loyalty are often dishonest. However, when performing her duties at the hospital, she becomes serious, blunt, and no-nonsense.

Her history as a human was marked by chronic illness that led to frequent hospitalizations. During this time, she felt like a burden to her family and friends, avoiding asking for help and suppressing resentment when others neglected her. Her perspective changed when she met her nurse, Haru Nanakusa. Haru provided genuine affection and care, which led Kabura to fall in love with her. When her physical and emotional condition deteriorated to a breaking point, Haru revealed her nature as a vampire and offered to transform Kabura, an offer she accepted.

After becoming a vampire, Kabura finally enjoyed a life free from physical frailty, finding happiness for the first time. Her happiness was complicated when Haru, who did not reciprocate Kabura’s romantic feelings, married a human man and became pregnant. Haru later died after giving birth to a daughter, Nazuna Nanakusa, but not before entrusting the child to Kabura's care. This event left deep emotional scars. Kabura initially felt resentment and considered harming the infant, but the baby's strong resemblance to her late love stopped her, and she ultimately raised Nazuna as her adoptive daughter. Her relationship with Nazuna is therefore deeply complex. She harbors a lasting and painful love for Nazuna's mother, which causes her to feel a conflicted sense of attraction and heartbreak when she looks at Nazuna. Despite these difficult emotions, she is deeply affectionate toward Nazuna, having raised her with genuine maternal love and continuing to watch over her to honor her promise to Haru.

Within the story, Kabura functions as a connection to Nazuna’s hidden past, providing crucial insight into her origins. Her role becomes more prominent when the protagonist, Kou Yamori, enters Nazuna's life. Kabura initially approaches him to assess his intentions and can be wary, but she ultimately recognizes his positive influence on Nazuna. She holds a significant amount of influence as a vampire, having reportedly created seven human servants of her own, which is a considerable number among her peers. She also has a habit of poaching potential servants from other vampires. One of her unique habits is preserving samples of her own blood from when she was still human. She injects this preserved blood occasionally, which allows her to retain memories of her human life that most other vampires forget. As a vampire, she possesses standard supernatural abilities such as enhanced speed, strength, durability, rapid regeneration, the power to levitate, and the ability to phase through solid objects.
