Description
Luca Esposito, a member of Group B-5, blends artistic flair, insatiable curiosity, and pragmatic survival instincts. His androgynous appearance features pale skin, lavender shoulder-length hair, and gray eyes, accentuated by a neon-green and blue spacesuit edged in yellow. Standing at 1.62 meters with a slender, feminine build, his intersex biology—deliberately engineered by his genetic original, artist Felice Genma—encompasses both male and female traits. Though he initially identifies as male and uses masculine pronouns, he later adopts a fluid gender presentation, incorporating feminine attire after a seven-year timeskip.

A clone created as part of a body-transfer conspiracy involving all Group B-5 members, Luca’s intersex condition stems from Felice’s intentional design, framing his body as purposeful rather than flawed. His adoptive father, politician Marco Esposito, neglects him due to his intersex identity and cloned origins, prioritizing his biological son Riccardo as heir. This estrangement fuels a pivotal confrontation when crewmate Ulgar Zweig, seeking revenge for his brother’s death at the hands of Marco’s associates, attempts to kill Luca. Revealing his intersex biology and adoptive status, Luca argues that Marco’s indifference voids Ulgar’s motive, sparking mutual understanding and forging a bond that evolves into a post-timeskip romantic connection.

As the group’s craftsman, Luca employs his artistic skills to craft weapons, repair their spacecraft, and maintain practical solutions during their journey. His curiosity frequently propels pivotal events, such as initiating contact with the mysterious orb that catapults the crew into deep space. Initially resistant to including child stowaway Funicia Raffaelli, he gradually softens, crafting her a flower hair accessory and fostering a supportive rapport.

Openly bisexual, Luca casually acknowledges attractions to peers like “hot” Kanata Hoshijima and “cute” Aries Spring. Though initially concealing his intersex identity as irrelevant, its disclosure brings relief as the crew accepts him without hesitation, reinforcing the narrative’s emphasis on self-determination. He asserts pride in his unique biology and clone origins, refusing to let either define him.

Post-journey, Luca embraces gender fluidity in both style and identity while maintaining close bonds. His teasing yet nurturing dynamic with Ulgar and Yun-hua Lu—for whom he styles hair—cements his role as a unifying force. His arc culminates in resilience against familial and societal rejection, positioning him as a emblem of self-acceptance and queer identity.
