TV-Series
Description
Gabiru is a majin who serves as a loyal subordinate to Rimuru Tempest within the Jura-Tempest Federation. He is the son of Abiru, the former chieftain of the lizardmen tribe that resides in the marshes of the Great Jura Forest. Initially, Gabiru was the only named warrior of his tribe, a status granted to him by the majin Gelmud before the main events of the story, which greatly inflated his ego.
In his first appearances, Gabiru is characterized by pronounced overconfidence and arrogance, taking great pride in his name and expressing annoyance when not addressed by it. Despite this boasting, he holds his father in high regard, seeing him as a proud and noble chieftain, and he has inherited qualities such as bravery, loyalty, and natural leadership. However, his inflated ego made him vulnerable to manipulation by the scheming Gelmud. Surrounded by subordinates who constantly praised him, Gabiru was led to believe he had to take over the tribe from his aging father to save his people during the crisis with the Orc Lord army. This led him to stage a rebellion, which ultimately put his entire tribe in jeopardy.
After the rebellion failed and he realized he had been used, Gabiru was profoundly humbled. He accepted full responsibility for his treason willingly, even accepting execution if it meant his men would be spared. As punishment, his father permanently exiled him from the tribe, forbidding him from identifying as a lizardman. Accompanied by his loyal followers and his younger sister Souka, Gabiru sought refuge with Rimuru Tempest. This failure and subsequent exile mark the major turning point for his character, after which his ego diminished considerably, and he became a much more level-headed, earnest, and knightly individual, though he retains some energetic and eccentric quirks that are viewed as endearing.
After joining the Jura-Tempest Federation, Rimuru gave Gabiru a new name. This act overwrote the naming from Gelmud and triggered an evolution, transforming Gabiru from a lizardman into a dragonewt. His appearance changed from greenish-black scales to purple, he grew dragon-like wings and noticeably larger horns, and his scales became firmer. Following Rimuru's own evolution into a True Demon Lord during the Harvest Festival, Gabiru underwent a further transformation, his scales taking on a reddish hue and his power reaching the Special A Rank. Ultimately, Rimuru granted him a portion of his soul, which caused an awakening that evolved Gabiru into a True Dragon-human, specifically an intermediate holy-demonic spiritual being of water known as a water spirit dragon. For his strength and service, Gabiru was appointed as one of Rimuru's Twelve Guardian Lords, receiving the title of Heavenly Dragon King.
Within Tempest, Gabiru plays several key roles. He serves as the captain of the Hiryuu, the nation's primary aerial attack force, commanding the third army corps. He also works diligently in the research department alongside the dwarf Vesta, playing a major role in the mass production of Hippokute herbs and healing potions, which advanced Tempest's medical and economic capabilities. He has a close, though sometimes contentious, relationship with his sister Souka, who often monitors his behavior. He also shares a strong friendship and working relationship with Vesta.
Gabiru has a number of notable abilities. He primarily fights using the Vortex Spear, a legendary relic and symbol of the lizardman leader that was passed down from his father. As a dragonewt, he gained Unique Skills, including one originally called Showoff, which allows him to alter destiny once per day by modifying the course of events in his favor when his spirits are high. After his awakening, this skill evolved into an Ultimate Gift called Mood Maker, which grants him advanced abilities including thought acceleration, destiny modification, manipulation of unforeseen events, spatial manipulation, and the creation of multiple barriers. He also possesses skills such as Dragon Skin, which forms a regenerating armor that absorbs magic from the surroundings to repair itself, as well as Flame Breath and resistances to pain, abnormal conditions, natural influences, and physical, mental, and magical attacks.
