Hakuro is a majin serving Rimuru Tempest, originally an elderly ogre whose village was destroyed by the Orc Lord. Grandson of master swordsman Byakuya Araki, he was martial instructor for the Ogre Tribe's royal guard. Defying the typical ogre lifespan of 100 years, he lived over 300 years before meeting Rimuru, a feat deemed miraculous. After his village's destruction, he and five other survivors allied with Rimuru. Receiving the name "Hakuro" from Rimuru triggered his evolution into a Kijin, extending his lifespan and enhancing his physical capabilities. Originally appearing as a short elderly ogre with silver hair, two ivory-like horns, pointed ears, and subtle silver-tinted skin, he wore layered robes, a pale brown scarf covering his mouth, fingerless gloves, and carried a simple Japanese sword. As a Kijin, his appearance shifted to a middle-aged prime: his hair sharpened, horns shrank, facial features became more defined, and he grew a silver goatee. His attire changed to a white overcoat with shoulder overwear or a scarf, depending on the depiction. Typically calm, analytical, and wise, Hakuro is respected as the "Sword Savant." He is perceptive in combat, identifying skills and tactics after a single observation. However, he reacts sharply to being called "old man," often threatening offenders with increased training or death. As Tempest's Chief Military Instructor, he drills warriors like Rimuru, Gobta, and Gabiru with notoriously strict methods. He emphasizes martial arts over innate skills, believing monsters over-depend on their abilities. His relationship with his daughter reveals a doting and overprotective side, especially regarding her romantic pursuits. Serving as a Jura Tempest Federation executive, Hakuro oversees military training and strategy. His combat skills include "Martial Master," "Heaven Gaze," "Thought Acceleration," "Foresight," and "Steel Strength." He wields a katana with exceptional proficiency, having trained figures like Gazel Dwargo, king of Dwargon. Gazel later surpassed him in swordsmanship, a development Hakuro acknowledged with pride. During *Scarlet Bond*, Hakuro reunites with fellow ogre survivor Hiiro, helping reconcile Hiiro's vendetta against Geld and the orcs, reinforcing his role as a unifying figure. His background includes mentoring Gazel Dwargo 300 years prior to the main story. After joining Tempest, he aided in repelling the Falmuth invasion and contributed to strategic discussions, such as dismantling Falmuth's barrier. His evolution into a Kijin amplified his existing capabilities, solidifying his status as a legendary swordsman within the federation.
