TV-Series
Description
Fullbody, also known by his epithet Double Ironfist, is a commissioned officer of the Marines who serves under the command of Rear Admiral Hina. He was originally introduced as a Marine Headquarters lieutenant stationed in the East Blue, a position that came with a sense of authority and respect that he greatly enjoyed. Fullbody is a man of average height with distinctive pink hair, which he once kept neatly combed but later allowed to grow longer and more unkempt, and he bears a scar beneath his right eye. His most notable physical features are the metal bolts attached to his knuckles, which he uses as weapons in combat.
At the start of his appearance in the story, Fullbody is characterized by a flamboyant and arrogant personality. He is a self-proclaimed ladies man who enjoys flaunting his rank and status, particularly to impress women. His arrogance, however, often leads him to underestimate his opponents, a flaw that has contributed to several of his failures. Despite his boastful and somewhat foolish demeanor, Fullbody possesses a strong moral compass that aligns more with Moral Justice than the Absolute Justice doctrine followed by many Marines. This is most clearly demonstrated when he risks his own career to save the life of a friend, prioritizing loyalty and friendship over the rigid execution of Marine law. He consistently shows concern for the safety of innocent civilians, even willing to endure a brutal beating to protect a hostage from harm. While he holds a persistent grudge against the chef Sanji for a humiliating defeat at the Baratie restaurant, his desire to capture the Straw Hat Pirates is likely a mix of personal revenge and his genuine sense of duty as a Marine.
Fullbody's role in the larger narrative is that of a minor recurring antagonist and, later, a supporting character. He serves as a capable but often outmatched Marine who provides a tangible sense of the more ordinary forces within the organization, contrasting with the extreme power of its top officers. His motivations evolve over time. Initially driven by ego, a desire for recognition, and the pursuit of romantic interests, his priorities shift significantly after meeting the former pirate Jango. His admiration for Jango's dancing skills leads to a deep friendship, and he becomes motivated by loyalty above all else, even choosing to sacrifice his prestigious rank of lieutenant to secure a pardon for his new friend. Following this demotion to seaman recruit, Fullbody's new motivation becomes serving under Captain Hina, for whom he and Jango develop an intense, and often comical, admiration.
The most significant relationship in Fullbody's life is with Jango, the former first mate of the Black Cat Pirates. The two meet during a dancing contest on Mirrorball Island and become inseparable friends, often mimicking each other's movements and acting in perfect sync. Their friendship is tested when Fullbody, adhering to his duty, is forced to arrest Jango. However, when Jango is sentenced to death, Fullbody performs a passionate plea dance in the courtroom that secures his friend's acquittal, accepting a demotion as the price. This act solidifies their bond, and they subsequently join Hina's unit together, becoming her devoted and somewhat silly subordinates. Another key relationship is his infatuation with his commanding officer, Hina. Both he and Jango are completely enamored with her, following her everywhere and declaring their admiration, which she typically ignores or tolerates with mild annoyance. She nevertheless recognizes their moderate strength and allows them to serve under her. On the other side of the spectrum, his primary antagonistic relationship is with Sanji. During a date at the Baratie restaurant, Fullbody’s attempts to impress his companion are ruined by Sanji. His subsequent attempt to frame Sanji by putting a fly in his soup backfires spectacularly, leading to a physical confrontation where he is soundly and embarrassingly defeated by the cook, an event that leaves a lasting mark on his pride.
Fullbody undergoes notable development, primarily shifting from a vain, status-obsessed officer to a more loyal and humble individual who values friendship over his career. His initial arrogance and incompetence at the Baratie lead to his disgrace, but his actions to save Jango demonstrate a core decency and capacity for self-sacrifice. After the two-year timeskip, Fullbody has managed to climb back up the ranks to become a lieutenant commander, one rank higher than he was at the beginning of the series, indicating a degree of personal and professional growth. He is seen participating in the Summit War of Marineford and, two years later, as part of the World Conference security detail.
In terms of abilities, Fullbody is an adept fighter who employs a boxing-like fighting style, using the metal bolts on his knuckles to increase the power of his punches, a technique that earned him his Double Ironfist moniker. He has demonstrated the strength to easily defeat the bounty hunters Johnny and Yosaku and seemed capable of single-handedly defeating an entire pirate crew before being forced to surrender due to a hostage situation. While powerful against ordinary opponents, he is significantly outclassed by stronger fighters like Sanji. During the Marineford battle, he was able to withstand the wave of Luffy's Haoshoku Haki without fainting, which suggests he possesses a stronger will than his partner Jango, who succumbed to it. Aside from combat, Fullbody is also a highly skilled dancer, a talent that is central to his friendship with Jango and even played a pivotal role in a courtroom drama.
