Description
Hiro Soma, a young Sohma family member, carries the Chinese Zodiac’s Sheep curse. Born prematurely, his first transformation occurred when his mother hugged him as an infant. Her calm acceptance spared him the turbulent upbringing typical of cursed relatives, fostering stability. His childhood intertwined with Kisa Sohma, the Zodiac Tiger, their bond deepening into romance and becoming pivotal to his personal conflicts and growth.

By eleven, Hiro adopted a sarcastic, pretentious demeanor, masking insecurities through harsh critiques he often regretted. His defensiveness spiraled after confessing his love for Kisa to Akito Sohma, the family’s abusive leader. Akito’s violent retaliation hospitalized Kisa, fueling Hiro’s self-blame and driving him to distance himself. Witnessing Akito push Isuzu Sohma from a window compounded his guilt, trapping him in silence and prolonged emotional isolation.

His clashes with Tohru Honda exposed his turmoil; he resented her ability to comfort Kisa when he felt powerless, lashing out through theft and verbal attacks. Tohru’s empathy gradually eroded his defenses. During a pivotal park confrontation, Hiro admitted his desperation to protect Kisa, vowing self-improvement—a turning point where he actively pursued maturity over childish impulses.

The birth of his sister Hinata twelve years later sharpened his introspection. Her innocence contrasted with his fears and vanity, solidifying his resolve to become her protector. This commitment was tested when he disclosed Akito’s abuse of Isuzu to Hatsuharu Sohma, defying fear of retribution to uphold his oath.

Hiro’s curse broke earlier than others’, his final sheep transformation ending in Chapter 118. His first act post-curse—holding Hinata—symbolized both freedom and claimed responsibility. By the story’s conclusion, his relationship with Kisa matured into mutual support, marked by quiet affection and shared resolve. His mother’s unwavering acceptance and his incremental emotional growth charted his path from guilt-ridden child to steadfast guardian.
