Description
Cavendish, known as the "Pirate Prince" or "White Horse" Cavendish, is the captain of the Beautiful Pirates and originally hails from the Bourgeois Kingdom, where he was once a prince. His life took a turn towards the sea after his extraordinary good looks caused the women of his kingdom to refuse marriage to anyone else, leading to his exile from the country. He entered the New World as a Super Rookie with a bounty of 280,000,000 berries one year before the Summit War of Marineford, gaining significant fame that was later eclipsed by the arrival of the eleven Supernovas of the Worst Generation. This loss of the spotlight fuels a deep and lasting resentment within him.

The most defining aspect of Cavendish's personality is his extreme vanity and narcissism. He has an obsessive need to be the center of attention and becomes deeply enraged when anyone draws focus away from him, a trait that leads him to declare his intent to eliminate all members of the Worst Generation who have stolen his notoriety. Despite this petty and arrogant exterior, he possesses a strong, honorable core. He is shown to be chivalrous, famously defending Rebecca from a hostile colosseum audience by declaring that a warrior's life is not a spectacle for the unworthy. He is deeply loyal to his companions, flying into a vengeful rage when his beloved horse, Farul, is injured, and he is known to honor his debts, giving up his grudge against Luffy after being saved by Usopp. He has a sophisticated palate, enjoying fancy meals and wine, and has the peculiar habit of eating roses, which are his favorite food.

What drives Cavendish more than anything is reclaiming the popularity and admiration he believes he is due. He entered the Corrida Colosseum primarily to win the Flame-Flame Fruit, an act he saw as a means to re-assert his dominance and capture the world's attention once more. His motivations, however, evolve over the course of the Dressrosa conflict. After his defeat at the hands of the Donquixote Pirates, where he was turned into a toy slave, his desire for revenge against Doflamingo's crew becomes paramount. Most significantly, his admiration for Monkey D. Luffy grows, leading him to abandon his hatred for the Worst Generation and pledge his loyalty, making him a key figure in a new alliance.

In the larger narrative, Cavendish serves as a major ally during the Dressrosa arc. He is a participant in the colosseum's Block D, where his internal struggle with his alter ego comes to a head. He later joins the fight against the Donquixote Family, battling alongside Bartolomeo against Gladius. Following Doflamingo's defeat, Cavendish, along with six other pirate crews, swears fealty to Luffy, forming the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. He becomes the captain of its first ship, solidifying his role as a prominent supporting character and ally for the future.

His key relationships are dynamic and often begin with conflict. He holds a vehement hatred for the members of the Worst Generation, specifically Monkey D. Luffy and Trafalgar Law, due to their popularity. This evolves into respect and loyalty; he honors a promise made to Usopp to forgo his grudge against Luffy and later directly swears his allegiance to him. He shares a competitive and bickering relationship with Bartolomeo, akin to a childish rivalry, but they prove capable of fighting together effectively. His most crucial internal relationship is with his own alter ego, Hakuba, whom he sees as a dangerous nuisance but is forced to acknowledge as a part of himself.

Cavendish undergoes subtle but significant development. He begins as a self-absorbed rival obsessed with reclaiming past glory. After being humbled and transformed into a toy, he is compelled to set aside his narcissistic grudges and work alongside the very people he despised. By the arc's end, he willingly places himself under the command of another for the first time, choosing loyalty to Luffy over his personal ambition for fame, signifying a shift from a loner obsessed with the spotlight to a committed member of a larger cause.

Notably, Cavendish possesses a severe case of split personality, manifesting as a second persona known as Hakuba, or the "Rommel's Sickle Weasel". When Cavendish falls asleep, Hakuba awakens, a bloodthirsty and manic killer who attacks anyone in sight with blinding, near-invisible speed and is said to possess twice the swordsmanship skill of Cavendish in his normal state. Cavendish is fully aware of Hakuba and can suppress him through willpower, though the two often argue for control of their shared body.

Regarding his abilities, Cavendish is a self-proclaimed genius swordsman who wields a famous, jewel-encrusted rapier named Durandal. He is proficient in both Busoshoku and Kenbunshoku Haki. His raw physical strength is impressive; he was able to halt a powerful headbutt from the legendary pirate Chinjao, a fighter with a bounty of over 500 million berries, using a single sword thrust named "Biken: Blue Bird". His techniques are often named after theatrical or ballet terms, such as "Biken: Swan Lake" and "Biken: Round Table," reflecting his flamboyant personality. When Hakuba takes over, his combat speed and ferocity increase dramatically, allowing him to effortlessly defeat entire groups of powerful gladiators in an instant. While difficult to control, Cavendish has shown the ability to access a "half-and-half" state, partially merging with Hakuba's speed and power while retaining his own consciousness.
