Sakura Minamoto, a 17-year-old from Karatsu, endured relentless misfortune tied to Saga’s curse—a force stifling individuals capable of revitalizing the prefecture. Though academically and athletically gifted, her achievements were repeatedly derailed by inexplicable accidents, illnesses, and injuries, plunging her into severe depression. A televised interview with Iron Frill’s Ai Mizuno sparked her resolve to become an idol, but this ambition ended abruptly in 2008 when a truck collision killed her en route to an audition.
Revived a decade later as a zombie by Kotaro Tatsumi, her former classmate, Sakura initially lost all memories of her human life. Designated Franchouchou’s Number 1, she emerged as the group’s emotional anchor, mediating clashes between members from clashing eras and backgrounds. Early struggles included mastering her undead physiology, stabilizing chaotic group dynamics, and performing covertly to hide their zombie identities. Fragments of her past resurfaced during concerts, culminating in full memory restoration after a second truck accident—a collision that temporarily erased her post-resurrection recollections and reignited her depression. Franchouchou’s collective support and Kotaro’s guidance helped her reconcile her dual existence.
Post-recovery, Sakura blended compassion with decisive leadership, tending to the nonverbal Tae Yamada and defusing interpersonal tensions. She galvanized the group through financial crises and existential threats to Saga, urging perseverance despite setbacks. Later, she confronted Kotaro’s emotional withdrawal, compelling him to reengage with Franchouchou.
Her zombie traits included detachable limbs, glowing night vision, and immunity to mortal wounds. Human-era talents in athletics, academics, and performing arts enhanced her idol skills, with singing and dancing sharpening under stress. A unifying force, she bridged generational divides among members and channeled their unresolved histories into collective purpose.
Expanded media like *Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise* and spin-off manga *The First Zombie* delve into broader franchise lore without altering Sakura’s established arc. Her role remains centered on resilience, unity, and steering Franchouchou through adversity.
