Description
Kotaro Takamiya, older brother to Teppei Takamiya, grew up alongside him and their uncle on Kamui Island after their parents' death. Demonstrating extraordinary scientific talents from childhood, he gained fame as a "boy genius" and built a small cave laboratory on the island. At age 11, he seized an opportunity presented by the Machine Empire to study robotics in Berlin, Germany, leaving Teppei behind. This choice rapidly propelled him to become a leading global expert in robotic biology and artificial intelligence.
His groundbreaking theories on autonomous robotic behavior drew the Machine Empire's focus. Invited as a guest speaker to a biorobotics conference in Mechatopia, China, he hoped to reunite with Teppei there. Instead, Machine Empire soldiers Aramis and Metalface abducted him during the event, transporting him to a secret Gobi Desert facility, the Area. Aramis disclosed Kotaro was specifically targeted; the Empire sought to exploit his research on self-determining robots.
Imprisoned within the Area's sublevel, Underhell, Kotaro learned Major Aramis had forcibly recruited him. His mission: halt the uncontrollable evolution of Raffaello (Raphael), the Machine Empire's ultimate B't creation, whose ability to absorb other lifeforms threatened global annihilation. Confined and physically vulnerable, Kotaro dedicated himself to solving a complex equation to neutralize Raphael. During this imprisonment, he collaborated with fellow scientist Dr. Lisa Maria Stein, an original character from the sequel *B't X Neo*. Their intellectual partnership proved crucial in developing the countermeasure, though Kotaro relied on allies for protection.
Kotaro's character is defined by his profound intellect, dedication to family, and pacifism. His primary motivation, evident in his attempt to contact Teppei before his kidnapping, is reuniting with his brother. Despite being a non-combatant, his scientific breakthroughs directly enabled the confrontation against Raphael. His interactions with other prisoners, including Underhell warden Marcello and his assistant Amigo, show his capacity to forge alliances under extreme duress.
The kanji "鋼" (steel) in his name reflects his robotics expertise. His background as an orphan and separation from Teppei form the emotional core of his narrative, fueling his resolve across all media. Within the conflict against the Machine Empire, Kotaro embodies the ethical application of science, contrasting starkly with the Empire's weaponization of technology.
