TV-Series
Description
Don is a ten-year-old orphan who was originally one of the residents of the Grace Field House, identified by the number 16194 tattooed on the left side of his neck. He is known for having a cheerful, energetic, and friendly demeanor, though he is also impulsive, rowdy, and occasionally careless in his actions. Standing as the tallest among the children at the Grace Field House, Don has a slender build, dark skin, short and messy black hair with an undercut, and brown eyes.

Don is considered one of the smarter children in the house, consistently placing around fifth in the daily exams. However, his defining characteristic is his deep emotional investment in his family. He cares greatly for his siblings, particularly the younger girl Conny, towards whom he acts as a protective older brother. This strong sense of familial loyalty often conflicts with his impulsive nature; Norman notes early on that Don is driven by his feelings. Don desires to be seen as a reliable person by the others and hates the idea of secrets being kept within the family.

When the true nature of the orphanage as a farm for demons is first revealed to him, Don reacts with violent disbelief, refusing to accept that Mama Isabella, whom he loved, is responsible for trafficking children. After discovering the full, horrifying truth including the death of his beloved Conny, Don’s emotions boil over. He lashes out physically at Norman and Ray for hiding the reality, but this anger is rooted in his own frustration at being unable to protect those he cares about. Following this emotional outburst, Don expresses a desire to become stronger and wholeheartedly commits to the escape plan alongside his friend Gilda.

In the story, Don initially serves as a secondary character who is brought into the main conspiracy to help identify a spy among the children. Upon learning the truth, his role evolves into a crucial member of the escape team. He takes on the physical tasks of preparing for the jailbreak, such as training the younger children and mastering a method to lasso and cross the large cliff that surrounds the facility. Don is also deceptively skilled, possessing talents for pickpocketing, which he demonstrates by successfully stealing Mama Isabella’s key without being noticed.

Don shares several key relationships that define his arc. His closest partnership is with Gilda, a girl his age. They are brought into the conspiracy together and work in tandem throughout the series; she often serves as the voice of reason who can calm his temper. He holds a self-proclaimed rivalry with Norman, partly due to Norman’s perfect scores, though this jealousy fades as they work toward a common goal of escape. He views Ray as a brother and, despite Ray’s role as a former spy, grows to respect him as a leader alongside Emma. His relationship with Emma is particularly significant. After learning she lied to protect him, Don pleads with her to have faith in their siblings, a moment that strengthens their mutual trust and solidifies his role as a supporter of her ideals.

Throughout the series, Don undergoes notable development. Initially depicted as a somewhat reckless boy who acts before thinking, he matures into a more composed and reliable figure. After escaping, he takes on a protective role for the younger children and demonstrates mental growth, such as when he encourages Gilda to remain calm for the sake of the group during dangerous times. Later in the story, Don shows significant ideological growth. Despite harboring a natural enmity toward the demons who hunted them, he opposes Norman’s plan to commit genocide against them, showing an ability to view the conflict from multiple perspectives and supporting Emma’s wish for a peaceful resolution.
