Description
Rem, one of twin Oni sisters who survived their village's destruction by the Witch Cult, bore a single horn and lived overshadowed by her prodigious sister Ram, fostering a deep inferiority complex. After Ram lost her horn in the attack, Rem felt fleeting joy at escaping comparison, swiftly replaced by crushing guilt. This drove her to dedicate herself as Ram's substitute, performing duties at Roswaal L. Mathers' mansion with unwavering diligence while discreetly concealing her slightly larger bust size from her sister.
Initially, Rem's narrow worldview focused solely on Ram; she spoke politely while masking internal hostility. Intensely hating the Witch Cult and capable of detecting the Witch's scent, she tortured and killed the newly arrived Subaru Natsuki twice because of this odor. Her perspective transformed when Subaru saved her from demon beasts in Elior Forest despite her actions, sparking profound romantic feelings. She grew her hair to differentiate herself from Ram and attract Subaru, viewing him as her "hero." This shift broadened her worldview, enabling bonds beyond Ram, including support for Emilia in the royal election despite jealousy over Subaru's affection for her.
Excelling in water magic, rated above average by Roswaal, Rem specializes in healing and offensive spells like ice spears (El Huma) and barriers (Huma). She wields a morningstar and can manifest her Oni horn, enhancing her physical abilities at the risk of recoil weakness or loss of control. She shares a telepathic Synesthesia bond with Ram, facilitating emotion sharing and mana transmission, later allowing Rem to function as Ram's "horn." After the Archbishop of Gluttony consumed her name and memories at Arc 3's end, Rem fell into a coma, erasing her existence from others' memories except Subaru's.
She awoke in Arc 6 with amnesia, reverting to wariness, particularly toward Subaru due to his intensified Witch scent. Referring to herself as "watashi" and Subaru as "that person," she set traps to avoid him. Protective instincts surfaced regardless, like attacking Todd Fang to defend Subaru. Unexplained jealousy emerged when observing Subaru with Emilia. Following Roy Alphard regurgitating her memories and name, she regained her identity and feelings, reverting to "Subaru-kun" and reaffirming her love. Her relationship with Ram restored, marked by mutual apologies for their separation.
