Description
Bercouli Synthesis One, born Bercouli Herlentz, emerged as a cornerstone of the Human Empire’s history and its first Integrity Knight, forged by Administrator Quinella’s Synthesis Ritual. Co-founder of Rulid Village, he transitioned from village guard chief to a memory-altered enforcer of the Axiom Church. Despite over two centuries of service as commander of the Integrity Knights, his physique remained that of a robust man in his forties—towering at two meters, with iron-gray hair, piercing pale blue eyes, and a body etched with scars from clashes against the Dark Territory.
Renowned for his unflappable composure in battle, Bercouli balanced tactical cunning with a sardonic wit. Though publicly unwavering in Church loyalty, he privately questioned its dogma and grappled with fragmented memories of his erased past. This duality fueled his commitment to stability, viewing the Church’s order as a flawed yet necessary shield. He mentored knights like Fanatio Synthesis Two with gruff protectiveness, preferring to dissect opponents’ strategies mid-combat before dismantling them.
His signature weapon, the Time Piercing Sword, derived from the Underworld’s system clock, unleashed temporal distortions. The “Void Slash” hurled strikes into the future by predicting enemy paths, while the forbidden “Reverse Slash” targeted past coordinates to bypass defenses. The blade’s temporal manipulation bent combat trajectories, leaving delayed strikes or rewinding foes. Augmenting this was his Sacred Arts mastery, enabling regeneration if spatial resources permitted, and an iron will that repelled mental or soul-based assaults.
A turning point unfolded during his clash with Eugeo in the Central Cathedral’s bathhouse. Overpowering Eugeo with temporal slashes, he was ensnared by the Blue Rose Sword’s ice and life-draining thorns. This triggered fractured recollections of his pre-knight life: Rulid’s mythologized hero, the theft of the Blue Rose Sword from a white dragon, and the Church’s distortion of his legacy. Post-Quinella’s fall, he marshaled the Human Empire’s defenses against the Dark Territory’s invasion. His final act against Dark God Vector deployed a sacrificial “Reverse Slash,” erasing Vector’s past existence to secure Alice’s escape, expending his life in the exchange. Death brought reconciliation between his dual identities—manipulated weapon and steadfast guardian.
Relationships revealed his paternal instincts, notably toward Alice Synthesis Thirty, whom he nicknamed “little miss Alice.” Respected by peers like Fanatio and Deusolbert, he unified allies through wit and experience. Posthumously, his origins as a Halens noble and Rulid’s co-founder were enshrined, solidifying his legend as a warrior who straddled myth and duty.
