Ryu appears in the Genocyber OVA's final story arc, set roughly a century after the initial events in a post-apocalyptic world. He works as a traveling performer, scouring the wasteland to earn money for an operation to cure his blind partner, Mel's, eyesight. His profound commitment to Mel drives his every action. During a knife-throwing act intended to raise funds, Ryu accidentally kills a spectator. This act triggers his pursuit and capture by the authorities of the City of the Grand Ark, one of humanity's last settlements. Imprisoned, Ryu endures while Mel finds refuge with an underground religious sect. They revere her as a messianic figure due to her psychic abilities and pregnancy. Ryu gains freedom when Genocyber awakens, obliterating the city in retaliation for the sect's massacre by the city's forces. Amidst the destruction, Genocyber revives Mel, restoring her sight, and reunites her with an unconscious Ryu. Ryu and Mel survive the city's annihilation, their story concluding with the implication of a possible future for humanity carried in their unborn child.
