Description
Bercouli Herlentz, also known as Bercouli Synthesis One, originated as a human swordsman and co-founder of Rulid Village, serving as its first guard chief. He rose to prominence through consecutive Imperial swordsmanship tournament victories and harbored disdain for the Axiom Church's rule. His attempt to cross the North Cave into the Dark Territory resulted in capture by Administrator Quinella, who subjected him to fluctlight manipulation experiments. These procedures damaged most of his memories, leading to cryogenic preservation. Following Cardinal's escape, Quinella revived Bercouli for the Synthesis Ritual, transforming him into the first Integrity Knight and eventual commander of the order. Despite memory suppression, he retained critical thinking and a faint distrust of the Axiom Church's directives, though he served it to maintain peace in the Human Empire.

Physically, Bercouli possessed a muscular build nearing two meters in height. He had short iron-gray hair tinged blue, a sturdy chin, a short beard, and light blue eyes that projected intense pressure, reflecting absolute confidence in his swordsmanship. Numerous scars from blades and arrows marked his body, evidence of centuries of frontline combat against the Dark Territory. Unlike other Integrity Knights, he typically wore a traditional kimono rather than armor and sported earrings on both ears.

His personality combined immense self-confidence and battle-hardened pride with occasional overconfidence, demonstrated during his duel with Eugeo when he conversed leisurely despite knowing Eugeo was preparing a lethal art. He valued composure, maintaining focus on complex techniques like his Armament Full Control Art while multitasking. Though he claimed not to hold grudges, he vowed vengeance if his disciples were harmed, displaying particular concern for Fanatio Synthesis Two. His leadership prioritized practicality and protecting the Human Empire, even amid skepticism toward the Church's elders.

Bercouli wielded the Divine Object-class Time Piercing Sword, capable of manipulating temporal forces. Its "Enhance Armament" stored slashes in specific spatial trajectories, activating them when touched later. The "Release Recollection" technique could target an opponent's past state, instantly reducing their "Life" to zero regardless of current durability—though this required precise spatial-temporal accuracy and was reserved for dire threats. He also utilized Sacred Arts for regeneration, such as regrowing severed limbs, and demonstrated extrasensory perception across vast distances.

A pivotal confrontation occurred when Eugeo encountered him in the Central Cathedral's Great Bath. After confirming Fanatio's survival, Bercouli engaged Eugeo in a duel. His Time Piercing Sword initially overwhelmed Eugeo, but Eugeo exploited environmental tactics and the life-draining properties of the Blue Rose Sword's ice roses. This strategy leveraged Bercouli's advanced biological age, weakening him sufficiently for containment and prompting fragmented memories of his human past to surface.

During the War of Underworld, Bercouli faced Dark God Vecta (Gabriel Miller), whose powers absorbed souls and willpower. Despite losing an arm and enduring excruciating pain, Bercouli's concentrated willpower countered Vecta's abilities. He strategically timed his Release Recollection to strike Vecta's past position exactly ten minutes earlier, bypassing Vecta's defenses. This effort fatally depleted his life force, culminating in a final strike that severed Vecta's arm before Bercouli dissipated into light. His last thoughts expressed regret for lacking parental memories but affirmed his commitment to protecting the next generation.

Legends within the Underworld immortalized his exploits, notably "Bercouli and the Northern White Dragon." This tale recounted his encounter with the dragon guarding the Human Empire's northern border, where he attempted to steal the Blue Rose Sword but was ensnared by spontaneously growing roses. The dragon spared him after he returned the sword. Centuries later, Quinella ordered him to slay the same dragon, though he left the Blue Rose Sword behind—possibly due to insufficient Object Control Authority to wield it.
