TV-Series
Description
Hanta Sero, also known by his hero name Cellophane, is a student in Class 1-A at U.A. High School training to become a professional hero. He is a young man of tall and lean build, standing 177 centimeters, with chin-length black hair styled in jagged bangs and narrow black eyes. His most distinctive physical traits are his notably straight, even teeth and the cylindrical tape dispensers permanently embedded in his elbows, which are the source of his Quirk. His face is often described by other characters as being quite plain.

Sero's personality is defined by his sociable, easygoing, and humorous nature. He is one of the more outgoing members of Class 1-A, frequently engaging in jokes and lighthearted teasing with his peers. He is known to be friendly and approachable, even with classmates who have more volatile personalities, such as Katsuki Bakugo, whom he sometimes playfully mocks alongside Eijiro Kirishima. Sero often acts as a voice of reason, calling out his friends when their behavior becomes irrational or extreme. Despite his laid-back demeanor, he possesses a brave and determined spirit. When faced with a challenge, even against a vastly superior opponent like Shoto Todoroki during the U.A. Sports Festival, he refuses to give up without a fight. During the Provisional Hero License Exam, he showed a tendency to gossip, eagerly sharing rumors with Denki Kaminari and Minoru Mineta.

Sero's primary motivation is to become a pro hero who can effectively support others. He does not seek the spotlight or individual glory, instead thriving in team-based support roles where his unique abilities can be best utilized. He shows great diligence in his training, and despite his average academic ranking, he is willing to seek tutoring from high-achieving classmates like Momo Yaoyorozu to improve.

Throughout the story, Sero serves as a supporting member of Class 1-A, participating in nearly all major arcs. During the U.S.J. Incident, he helps subdue the villain Kurogiri. In the U.A. Sports Festival, he advances to the second round before being defeated by Todoroki. For his final exams, he partners with Minoru Mineta against the pro hero Midnight. During the Joint Training Battle, he devises a clever strategy using Bakugo's grenade to defeat the formidable Setsuna Tokage. He also participates in the later conflicts of the series, including the Paranormal Liberation War arc. His performance in the Sports Festival catches the attention of the pro hero team The Lurkers, consisting of Edgeshot, Kamui Woods, and Mt. Lady, and he interned under them to refine his combat techniques.

Sero maintains several key relationships within Class 1-A. He is particularly close friends with Denki Kaminari and Eijiro Kirishima, forming a friendly trio alongside Bakugo. He is often seen with Kaminari, and the two share a similar outgoing and humorous disposition. Despite Bakugo's explosive temper, he is part of their friend group, and Bakugo trusts Sero's skills enough to call for his backup in battle, though he addresses him with nicknames like Tape Arms. He is also partnered with Minoru Mineta on several occasions, and while he frequently scolds Mineta for his perverted actions, the two work together effectively as seen when they passed their final exam against Midnight.

Over the course of the series, Sero develops from a capable but unremarkable student into a highly skilled and professional hero. He continually trains to increase the speed, durability, and volume of the tape his Quirk produces. By the conclusion of the series, eight years after the Final War, he has graduated from U.A. High School and achieved the rank of No. 36 Pro Hero. In the epilogue, he sports a redesigned costume and a thin beard, and he adopts a swinging technique through the city that directly mirrors Marvel Comics' Spider-Man, a deliberate homage from the series creator.

Sero's Quirk, named Tape, allows him to produce and fire long, adhesive, cellophane-like strips from the dispensers in his elbows. He can also retract the tape. The tape is remarkably durable and can be used to restrain multiple people at once, create defensive barricades, set traps, or be used for mobility by attaching to surfaces and swinging. He is also capable of shooting multiple strands at once and producing tape that is sticky on both sides. He has developed specific techniques, including Barricade Tape to shield allies and Tape Shot: Trident, which launches objects as projectiles using multiple tape strands. The Quirk has a notable weakness where overusing it causes his skin to dry out and become painful. Sero has shown above-average physical strength, using his tape to swing his own body weight and pull others without difficulty. His fighting style is best suited for long-range combat and tactical support, making him a highly effective team player.
