Description
Ochaco Uraraka is a student in the hero course at U.A. High School who appears in the anime film My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes' Mission as part of the large group of young heroes mobilized to confront a worldwide crisis. During the film, which takes place while the students are completing their winter hero internships, the extremist organization Humarise threatens to detonate bombs in several countries that would cause quirks to spiral out of control. Professional heroes from around the world and U.A. students currently working as interns are assembled to retrieve these bombs and protect civilians, and Uraraka is among the students called into this global operation. While the central storyline of the film follows Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki, Uraraka takes part in the broader mission as a dependable member of the hero team.
Uraraka comes from a family that runs a construction business and grew up in modest financial circumstances. Watching her parents struggle motivated her to become a professional hero with the practical goal of earning money and giving them a more comfortable life. She left home to attend U.A. High School and lives independently while pursuing her training. During her development as a hero, she studied martial arts under the professional hero Gunhead, which gave her a solid foundation in close combat to complement her quirk.
She is a cheerful, sincere, and open person who is generally positive and easygoing, with a warm and friendly manner toward everyone she meets. She is highly empathetic and instinctively wants to help those in distress, and her kindness makes her well regarded among her classmates. At the same time, she is determined and hardworking, and when faced with competition or danger, she can show a focused and even fierce side that contrasts with her gentle appearance. She is often underestimated because of her soft demeanor, something she dislikes and tends to push back against through her actions.
Her original motivation to become a hero was to support her family financially, and she has never hidden this practical ambition. However, as she gains experience through her training and missions, her reasons deepen. She comes to want to rescue people not only for personal benefit but out of genuine care for others, and she develops a stronger understanding of what being a hero truly means. In the context of World Heroes' Mission, she shares the commitment of her fellow students to protect innocent people regardless of personal risk.
Her closest relationship is with Izuku Midoriya, the protagonist of the series. She was among the first people to befriend him at U.A., she understands him well, and she continually supports him, while the two share mutual romantic feelings that she struggles to put into words. She is also close friends with Tsuyu Asui, with whom she often works and trains, and she maintains good relationships with the rest of her classmates, frequently cooperating with them during exercises and missions. Her empathetic nature is one of her defining traits, and later in the broader story it leads her to try to understand even an enemy like Himiko Toga rather than simply condemn her, showing that her compassion extends beyond easy situations.
Over time, Uraraka develops from a cheerful but somewhat unconfident student into a more mature and capable hero. She becomes more skilled in combat, more strategic in her thinking, and more willing to set aside her personal feelings for the sake of her duties. She also grows into someone who can support not only civilians but other heroes, a sign of her increasing confidence and sense of responsibility.
Her quirk is called Zero Gravity. By touching an object or person with the pads on her fingertips, she can make it weightless and cause it to float. She can cancel the effect by pressing the pads of her fingers together. In her early training, she could handle roughly three tons of weight before suffering strong nausea, and exceeding that limit makes her violently ill, so managing the burden is an important part of using her power effectively. She uses the quirk in many ways, including making herself weightless to increase her agility and mobility, lifting debris and heavy objects for rescue work, and sending enemies floating to neutralize them. Combined with her martial arts training, her tactical instincts, and her quick thinking in battle, she is an effective and versatile hero whose abilities are especially valuable in rescue and support roles.
