Nene Sakurada, a five-year-old in the Sunflower Class, is Shinnosuke Nohara's close friend with a bossy and dramatic flair. She orchestrates "real omamagoto" games, always claiming the mother role while forcing friends into parts like unsuccessful salarymen or weak husbands—frequently conscripting Masao Sato as her husband or Shinnosuke when Masao escapes. Her play scenarios thrive on arguments and divorces.
Mirroring her mother’s temperament, Nene erupts in frustration, pounding a stuffed bunny toy to vent; without it, Masao becomes her default target. Though she presents herself as sweet-natured, bossiness dominates her interactions. She nurses a fierce rivalry with Ai Suotome, bristling when boys favor Ai over her. Her interests include watching "Magical Girl Moe-P" and doting on her pet cats. She actively serves in the Kasukabe Defense Organization alongside Shinnosuke, Masao, Toru Kazama, and Bo Suzuki.
In "Crayon Shin-chan: Roar! Kasukabe Animal Kingdom," Nene and her Defense Organization friends accidentally trigger a partial animalization serum while aiding Shinnosuke. She transforms into a rabbit-bodied hybrid with her human head intact. Alongside Masao (pangolin), Kazama (bat), and Bo (penguin), she uses her new abilities to infiltrate the SKBE base, rescue Shinnosuke’s fully animalized parents, and reverse the animalization plaguing Kasukabe.
Her bond with Shinnosuke weaves complexity: she scolds or strikes him for odd antics yet seeks his companionship, inviting him on outings with her mother and dreading his potential move. They often team up to non-maliciously bully or scold Masao, unsettling him. While jealous when other girls engage Shinnosuke—and amid skirmishes where others vie for her affection—she genuinely cares for him. With Kazama, she drags him into disliked games, clashing with his serious nature, yet shows flickers of jealousy when girls approach him. She maintains steady support for Bo.
Nene lives with her parents, Moeko and Mr. Sakurada, and her sister Nike (Niku Chan). Her household features a small, dim room where her mother vents rage on a giant stuffed rabbit—echoing Nene’s own bunny-pounding habit.
