TV-Series
Description
Bem leads the YOUKAI-NINGEN trio as humanoid monsters pursuing humanity. Created centuries ago through alchemy, he is immortal yet maintains the appearance of a man in his late twenties or thirties. His enduring motivation across all incarnations is protecting humanity from supernatural evil, hoping virtuous deeds will grant him humanity.

In the 1968 series, he emerges as the most intellectual and perceptive member, displaying a calm, collected demeanor. Confronting adversaries with gentlemanly poise, he acts as a father figure to Bela and Belo, tempering Bela's emotional outbursts and unifying the group through leadership. His abilities include monster transformation, teleportation, illusions, and energy manipulation.

The 2019 series reinforces his leadership role, emphasizing his justice-driven resolve and precise situational analysis. Though outwardly quiet and expressionless, he prioritizes human safety above all and treats Bela and Belo as family. His expanded powers encompass superhuman agility, heightened senses, and electrokinesis—summoning and controlling electricity at will. In human form, he wields a cane as his primary weapon. This adaptation redefines the trio's abilities into "Fire, Ice, Lightning" elements, with Bem embodying lightning.

The film "Become Human," set after the 2019 series, drives significant character development. After defeating antagonist Vega, Bem faces Manstoll, a former colleague turned villain. When Manstoll fatally wounds Sonia Summers, Bem activates a final monstrous form to destroy him. In a pivotal sacrifice, Bem transfers his lifeforce to revive Sonia, embedding his spirit within her body. This act fulfills his lifelong wish: by giving his life to save a human, he achieves a form of humanity. The epilogue implies Sonia exists as a fusion of both beings, carrying Bem's essence.

Throughout all media, Bem confronts persistent human discrimination due to his monstrous true form yet remains unshaken in his mission. His relationships highlight protective instincts, particularly when allies like Sonia are endangered, while his leadership consistently prioritizes group cohesion and safeguarding humanity despite rejection. His narrative concludes with this ultimate sacrifice, symbolizing the realization of his aspiration to transcend monstrosity through selflessness.
