Description
Akari Mizunashi left Japan on Manhome (Earth) at fifteen, immigrating to the planet Aqua (formerly Mars) to train as an Undine, a gondolier and tour guide in Neo-Venezia. She became a Pair (apprentice) at Aria Company under Alicia Florence, one of Neo-Venezia's legendary "Water Fairies." Daily practice with peers Aika S. Granzchesta and Alice Carroll followed, though Akari initially struggled with standard rowing after accidentally mastering backward rowing on Manhome simulators—a skill she later excelled at.

She possesses pink hair styled in neck-length cuts with curtain bangs and two long side locks held by yellow clasps, spring green eyes, and average height. As an Undine, she wears Aria Company's white-and-blue uniform: a cropped blouse and strapped ankle-length dress in summer, and a thick cape, long-sleeved dress, and gray tights in winter. In adulthood, her hair grows longer, the side locks looped into a low ponytail reaching her thighs.

Akari's personality centers on relentless optimism and finding wonder in the mundane, dubbed the "Akari Filter" by friends. She frequently uses expressions like "hahi" (for "hai") and "hohe" (for "wow"), and reacts to surprises with a prolonged "Ehhhh?" While lacking Aika's historical knowledge or Alice's technical prowess, her warmth and openness help her befriend residents, tourists, and supernatural entities across Neo-Venezia. She prefers walking barefoot during Aqua Alta (flooding events), cherishing the tactile sensations of water and stone.

Her career progressed from Pair to Single (journeyman) early in training, eventually achieving Prima status after passing Alicia's rigorous exam and earning the title "Aquamarine" (Harukanaru Ao, or "Distant Blue"). This coincided with Alicia's retirement, depicted in *Aria the Origination*. Post-timeskip narratives (*Aria the Avvenire*, *Aria the Crepuscolo*) show Akari as a seasoned Prima mentoring her own apprentice, Ai Aino, maintaining correspondence via letters that frame many story episodes.

Akari's background offers minimal explicit details about her life on Manhome, fueling fan theories about a possible "dark past" contrasting her cheerful demeanor, suggesting her positivity may stem from overcoming adversity. A canonical manga quote from Alicia describes her as "pure white... able to reflect the palette of the world," emphasizing her role in highlighting overlooked beauty. Akari also demonstrates a connection to Aqua's supernatural elements, frequently encountering phenomena like the Cait Sith legend.
