Description
Chizuru Yukimura, daughter of respected Edo doctor Koudou Yukimura, spent her early years in relative peace, unaware of her demonic heritage. When her father traveled to Kyoto and communication ceased, she journeyed to find him. Rescued by the Shinsengumi from rogue samurai, she learned her father had collaborated with them before vanishing after a clinic fire. This tied her fate to the group.

Under Toshizou Hijikata's direction, Chizuru initially disguised herself as a male to minimize disruption within the all-male Shinsengumi, though her gender was often recognized. She has dark-brown shoulder-length hair, usually tied in a ponytail with a white ribbon, brown eyes, and wears a distinctive peach-pink top with gray pants. She carries her family's heritage kodachi.

Gentle, compassionate, and fiercely loyal, Chizuru serves the Shinsengumi as a medical aide, treating wounds and managing chores while forming deep bonds. Initially hesitant in conflict, she demonstrates courage when protecting others, especially as threats escalate. Her demon lineage becomes central: she is targeted by factions like Chikage Kazama, who seeks her as a pure-blood bride, and later confronts her twin brother, Kaoru Nagumo. Kaoru reveals their shared past and Koudou's role in their separation after their clan's massacre.

Chizuru's development intensifies through the Shinsengumi's struggles. She witnesses their transformation into Rasetsu—beings enhanced by the Water of Life elixir but cursed with shortened lifespans and bloodlust—and grapples with her blood's potential to alleviate their suffering. Her loyalty is tested repeatedly, from refusing Kazama's sanctuary to actively participating in battles like defending Kōfu Castle and shielding commander Isami Kondou. She forms a profound bond with Hijikata, culminating in a mutual oath of protection. Her resolve hardens as she chooses to fight Kaoru and Koudou, who plans to unleash Rasetsu against humanity.

Through the Shinsengumi's decline—marked by betrayals, deaths, and the shift to Western warfare—Chizuru remains a steadfast emotional anchor. She endures the loss of comrades, Kondou's capture and execution, and Hijikata's struggles with Rasetsu powers, persistently supporting the group while seeking her father's truth. Her journey reflects a transition from vulnerability to resilience, anchored in her commitment to the Shinsengumi's ideals and her acceptance of her demon heritage as both a burden and a source of strength.
