Description
Natural Harmonia Gropius, called N, began as an orphan raised alongside Pokémon in the wild, granting him the unique capacity to understand and communicate with them. Ghetsis discovered him, adopted him, and deliberately isolated him from human contact, exposing him only to abused Pokémon to cultivate his belief that humans and Pokémon must be separated. Manipulated by Ghetsis, N was crowned king of Team Plasma and tasked to liberate Pokémon from trainers by becoming Unova's prophesied hero, aided by the legendary dragon Zekrom or Reshiram.

Initially appearing as an antagonist, N challenges the player repeatedly during their journey, expressing deep distrust toward humans and viewing Pokémon battles as cruel due to his companions' suffering. His personality blends seriousness with childlike traits, including a fascination with mechanisms such as ferris wheels, which he admires for their mathematical elegance. Despite leading Team Plasma, he demonstrates protectiveness toward his followers, confronting the player to ensure their escape.

Physically, N is tall and slender with long, tea-green hair tied in a low ponytail and gray or blue eyes. His attire consists of a black-and-white cap, a white shirt over a black undershirt, beige pants, and green shoes. A distinctive gold-and-black cube-shaped puzzle, symbolizing infinite surface area and zero volume, hangs from his clothing.

N's worldview shifts after repeated defeats by the player. Witnessing the bond between the player and their Pokémon during the climactic battle at his castle causes him to question his ideals. Ghetsis's subsequent betrayal—revealing his plan to dominate Unova by exploiting N's influence—forces N to recognize his own naivety. After Ghetsis's defeat, N relinquishes his ambitions, bids farewell to the player, and departs Unova on his dragon to explore the world and seek understanding beyond his sheltered upbringing.

In sequels set two years later, N returns as an ally. He rescues the player from Ghetsis and Kyurem at Giant Chasm, though his dragon is temporarily fused with Kyurem. Following Ghetsis's second defeat, N aids the player by providing HM05 (Waterfall) and later battles them at his castle's ruins. He gifts the player the dormant form of his dragon, encouraging them to revive it at Dragonspiral Tower. He remains in Unova, appearing weekly at Nimbasa City's ferris wheel for interactions.

A recurring Zoroark is linked to N, guarding locations like Victory Road and leading the player to his castle ruins. This fuels theories that N might be a Zoroark using illusion, especially given scenes where Zoroark vanishes near him and Ghetsis's repeated insinuations that N possesses "the heart of a Pokémon" and is "not human"; this remains speculative within official lore.

In other media, such as Pokémon Masters EX, N appears, forming sync pairs with legendary dragons and Zoroark, emphasizing his enduring connection. His storylines explore themes like reconciliation, resolving past tensions with allies like Hilbert, and rejecting misguided followers who distort his original ideals.
