Dragon Shiryu, a Japanese orphan raised among 100 children by Mitsumasa Kido’s Graude Foundation to serve Athena as Saints, was selected via raffle to train at China’s Lushan Five Old Peaks under Libra Gold Saint Dohko. Over six years, he mastered reversing a mineral-rich waterfall to claim the Dragon Bronze Cloth, featuring a near-indestructible shield and gauntlet. A dragon-shaped mark on his back, linked to his Cosmo energy, serves as a life indicator—its fading heralds imminent death.
During the Galaxian Wars, Shiryu dueled Pegasus Seiya, exposing a fatal flaw in his Rising Dragon strike: a millisecond vulnerability over his heart. Though defeated, Seiya revived him through cardiac resuscitation, forging an unbreakable bond. In the Black Saints arc, Shiryu nearly died channeling his blood to repair shattered Cloths before facing Ikki’s legion. His tactical resolve led him to abandon armor in critical battles, relying on raw power and ingenuity.
Blinded by Perseus Algol’s petrifying shield, Shiryu drove spikes through his own eyes to secure victory, later regaining vision upon awakening the Seventh Sense during a clash with Cancer Deathmask. This sense transcended physical limits, heightening his combat acuity. The Sanctuary arc saw him inherit Excalibur from Capricorn Shura, a technique enabling him to slice through any material—key to defeating Poseidon’s general Chrysaor Krishna. His Cloth, briefly golden after absorbing Gold Saint blood, reverted post-battle as his vision faded again.
Awakening the Eighth Sense in the Hades arc granted Shiryu entry to the underworld. Infused with Athena’s divine blood, his Cloth evolved into the Dragon God Cloth, wielding multiversal-level strength to dismantle Hades’ forces. Post-war, he adopted Shoryu, a child rescued from the 18th-century Holy War, and was named heir to the Libra Gold Saint mantle.
In *Saint Seiya Omega*, Shiryu retired following sensory deterioration, bequeathing the Dragon Cloth to his son Ryūhō. Though later healed, he insisted Ryūhō retain the mantle. When the Pallasite conflict erupted, he fought in Genbu’s inherited Libra Gold Cloth, supporting the new Saints.
Shiryu’s arsenal includes the Rising Dragon uppercut, horizontal Soaring Dragon, Hundred Dragons barrage, and the mutually lethal Enraged Dragon. His strategic intellect, martial prowess, and willingness to sacrifice—manifested through repeated blindness and near-fatal acts—cement his legacy as the wisest and most enduring Bronze Saint.
