Description
Alex Cazerne is a high-ranking officer in the Free Planets Alliance military, known for his logistical and administrative expertise. Early in his career, as a commander, he was Yang Wen-li’s superior and assigned Yang to investigate the Tuesday Correspondence concerning the death of war hero Bruce Ashbey. He later facilitated Yang’s transfer from a prisoner-of-war camp back to Heinessen. Cazerne married Hortense Milbelle in 789 UC, and they had two daughters, including one named Charlotte Phyllis Cazerne. He arranged for the orphan Julian Mintz to become Yang Wen-li’s ward, hoping Julian might one day marry Charlotte. By 796 UC, holding the rank of vice admiral, Cazerne helped secure the Rosen Ritter unit for the capture of Iserlohn Fortress. As chief rear staff officer during the Alliance’s invasion of Imperial territory, he faced supply shortages caused by Imperial scorched-earth tactics and was reassigned to a frontier base, though Yang later secured his transfer to Iserlohn Fortress as chief administrator. From early 797 UC, he served on Yang’s command staff, acting as interim fortress commander during Yang’s absences. He accepted the defection of Imperial Admiral Merkatz and expressed concerns about political threats from Chairman Job Trunicht. During the Geiersburg Fortress crisis, he initially favored defensive tactics but approved aggressive countermeasures, holding the fortress until Yang’s return. Following the Empire’s declaration of war, Cazerne organized the evacuation of Iserlohn’s military personnel and many civilians. He joined Yang’s guerrilla campaign and was present at the Battle of Vermillion. After the Alliance’s defeat, he remained with the Alliance Fleet under Imperial oversight as acting secretary of logistics, participated in covert planning for a resistance movement, and later defected during the Lennenkampf affair, joining Yang’s loyalists.
