Description
Alex Cazerne served as a logistics officer and vice admiral in the Free Planets Alliance military. Early in his career, as a commander, he acted as Yang Wen-li's superior, assigning the young officer to investigate the Tuesday Correspondence concerning Bruce Ashbey's death in 788 UC. Later, he facilitated Yang Wen-li's transfer from a prisoner-of-war camp on Econia back to Heinessen. Cazerne married Hortense Milbelle in February 789 UC; they had two daughters, one named Charlotte Phyllis Cazerne. He arranged for the orphan Julian Mintz to be adopted by Yang Wen-li, expressing hopes Julian might one day marry Charlotte.

By 796 UC, holding flag officer rank, Cazerne assisted Yang in securing the Rosen Ritter unit for the capture of Iserlohn Fortress. Following the Seventh Battle of Iserlohn, he was appointed chief rear staff officer for the Alliance's invasion of Imperial Territory. The invasion failed due to Imperial scorched-earth tactics and ambushes causing supply shortages. Held responsible for the logistical failures, Cazerne was reassigned to a frontier base, though Yang later secured his transfer to Iserlohn Fortress as chief administrator.

As Iserlohn's chief administrator from early 797 UC, Cazerne served on Yang's command staff. During Yang's absence to suppress rebellions in the Alliance Civil War, Cazerne acted as interim fortress commander. He later accepted the defection of Imperial Admiral Merkatz. In early 798 UC, Cazerne expressed concerns to Yang about political threats from Supreme Council Chairman Job Trunicht and urged Julian Mintz to protect Yang. When Yang was summoned to Heinessen for a government inquiry in March 798 UC, Cazerne resumed command of Iserlohn. He initially advocated defensive tactics against the mobilized Geiersburg Fortress but approved Walter von Schönkopf's aggressive countermeasures. The fortress held out until Yang's return, enabling Geiersburg's destruction.

Following the kidnapping of Emperor Erwin Josef II and the Empire's declaration of war, Cazerne organized the evacuation of Iserlohn's military personnel and millions of civilians, expressing frustration over the destruction of transport vessels. He subsequently joined Yang's guerrilla campaign and was present at the Battle of Vermillion. After the Alliance's defeat and Trunicht's resignation, Cazerne remained with the Alliance Fleet under Imperial oversight, holding the position of acting secretary of logistics at the joint operations headquarters. He participated in covert planning to establish a resistance movement under Admiral Merkatz.

During the Lennenkampf affair in summer 799 UC, after Yang's escape from imprisonment, Cazerne resigned from the Rebelo government, rejecting an offer of promotion from Admiral Rockwell. He joined Yang's loyalists, assisting in their evacuation from Heinessen; they ultimately avoided the independent planet El Facil due to insufficient military strength for its defense.
